4.0 out of 5 stars Great Illustrations, March 24, 2007
The plant illustrations presented in this book are both a strength and a weakness. While the drawings are superbly done, it would have been better to have photographs of actual plants. I really hate myself for saying that, but it is the honest truth. I have several desert plant books, and while this is not the most useful book in my collection, it is a highly valuable supplement that I use quite often. The descriptions of the plants are useful and the organization of the book makes it easy to use. In general, this book is nice to have as a second opinion in those cases where you feel unsure or tentative about the identification of a plant specimen. It won't help you with rare plants and in most cases it won't help you with difficult to distinguish species and varieties, but it's a great general purpose book. My desert plant book collection would be very incomplete without it and I use it often enough to have more than justified purchasing it!
