5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the Mosquitoes! No TANK needed!!!!!
I don?t usually write things like this but having a Mosquitoes Magnet I wanted more protection without the annoyance of refilling and carrying propane around and not to mention the cost. Every three weeks having to buy propane is bad enough! I took a chance on this Galaxie product and I am glad I did its capturing everything in the yard. It appears to works almost as well...

1.0 out of 5 stars One dollar per mosquito, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Flowtron PV-440 Galaxie Power-Vac Mosquito Control Unit (One Acre Coverage) (Lawn & Patio)
After twice sending the unit back to the factory, the unit worked for two weeks and again would not turn on. I tried all the suggestions made by the factory. The following year I opened the unit and tried to see what was wrong. I found totally frozen fan bearings. I suppose that the cartriges to repel mosquitoes are corrosive and corroded the bearings. To end my agonies with the unit, I took it to the garbage dump. The unit is cheaply made and therefore unreliable. When it worked, it worked well. I believe it cost me about one dollar per killed mosquito.

I purchase my unit a little less than one year ago and now I am shopping for a different brand. It worked fine for the first summer season in Texas, but now that it is spring almost summer--it does not turn on at all. I have completed all of the manual's troubleshooting in addition to purchasing a new bulb and cable for it. But, it does not work anymore after only 1 summer usage! I do not recommend!!!

Every three weeks having to buy propane is bad enough! I took a chance on this Galaxie product and I am glad I did its capturing everything in the yard. It appears to works almost as well as the Magnet and theirs no refilling propane! If this keeps up I will buy two more of these units and retire the Magnet. I give this product five stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works so far, July 4, 2006
This review is from: Flowtron PV-440 Galaxie Power-Vac Mosquito Control Unit (One Acre Coverage) (Lawn & Patio)
Caught hundreds of mosquitos in one night, looks like moths are in there too. Maybe they are after the light inside?
My yard seems to be better to be in, but still getting bitten guess next few weeks will tell.
I paid 1200 for Commercial Pro Mosquito Magnet 2 years ago and it is in the dump now. Biophysics did not stand by there product. So gave this much cheaper option a try. Deep Woods OFF is still my best defense.

I picked up this unit hoping that it would do the job in my backyard, all that it has picked up is a few "flying insects" nothing else. Unless I am missing something, do not waste your money.

This thing catches mosquitos! It's easy to set up and you dont have to buy propane. It was a lot less expensive than the mosquito magnet and it does what they say it does.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great when it's colder out, May 28, 2007
This review is from: Flowtron PV-440 Galaxie Power-Vac Mosquito Control Unit (One Acre Coverage) (Lawn & Patio)
I had a similar more expensive unit that used propane that never caught a single mosquito, and I wouldn't have gotten a new one except I won this in a contest. I started using it in December (in North Carolina) and had to dump the catch tray frequently because it kept filling up. As it got closer to summer, it didn't catch nearly as many. My guess is that when it's a warmer item in the yard it works much better. For what it caught during the colder months, I'm sure it thinned out the population around my house and I'd certainly consider buying another if this one broke.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flowtron Galaxie didn't work for us!, July 22, 2007
This review is from: Flowtron PV-440 Galaxie Power-Vac Mosquito Control Unit (One Acre Coverage) (Lawn & Patio)
We set up the system according to the instructions. We live in MA and our backyard has woods so we set it there and sat on the deck about 50 feet away. The first night it was not very humid and although there were some mosquitos around us, they weren't biting and assumed it was because of the Flowtron. The 2nd time we used it on a far more humid night, we tried to sit on the deck to eat and the mosquitos were swarming and biting us to the point that it was impossible to eat out there and we went inside. The mosquito trap had only about a dozen mosquitos in it from the 2 nights combined. Needless to say, we sent it back for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, environmentally responsible, May 22, 2007

We purchased this item early in the season in hopes of getting ahead of the swarms of biting flies and we aren't disappointed at all. Given the great price, two of these would be better but one will do well enough for this year. We considered spraying pesticide because of the constantly wet areas around our home and the large percentage of time we spend outdoors but were concerned about the long term effects. While there are "natural" products available, their effectiveness is limited and the price is high. For us, this made sense. There is no expensive propane to refill, it runs on low voltage current and is hardly audible. The results are not instant because it takes a while to make a dent in the mosquito and black fly breeding population but the longer we run it, the fewer flies we have to deal with. The seller we purchased from has the best price anywhere too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flowtron works well but does not last, June 11, 2011

This unit only worked for a month then it stopped working. It would not power on. I had to send it back to the company to have it repaired and paid for shipping myself. It's been now 2 weeks since it's been repaired but this time the fan stopped working. I've contacted the company again and waiting for a response from them. Other than the hassle of returning the product and paying out of pocket each time for shipping, this is a great product. It really works to reduce your mosquito population!

***Update***
6/27/11 - it's been 3 weeks since the fan to the Powervac stopped working. I've contacted the company over 2 weeks and reported the problem. Finally after 3 emails, someone responded stating to clean the fan. Cleaned the fan as stated in the manual and still no success. Still waiting on a response for next step to getting this product fixed. Not sure if this will happen.
