4.0 out of 5 stars Reference, November 1, 2008
This book came highly recommended from my nursing instructors and I can see why. It has been very helpful in promoting an understanding of electrolytes and acid/base balance that has allowed me to be able to manage care of patients more safely and efficiently. It has also allowed me to write passing papers.

5.0 out of 5 stars TREMENDOUS!, August 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a student at Saint Louis University, and have the privilege of participating in the Fluid and Electrolyte class taught by the author of this book! Dr. Metheny does a tremendous job of explaining the topic in a simplistic manner. The book is concise, avoiding the verbosity seen in a lot of texts, and covers everything Dr. Metheny does in her lectures. Reading it is like having a front-row seat in her class. I am thankful for the knowledge I've gained from it. If you desire to be a GREAT nurse and to SAVE LIVES, you should own a copy of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE for every student nurse, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I would like to start by saying that my experience with this seller was great- outstanding service, product arrived earlier than expected.
I have been extremely satisfied with this book I checked this book out from the school's library I am attending-and just after reading a few pages I knew I had one of the greatest books about fluid and electrolytes ever. I had to order it and added to my book collection; not only contains valuable information, but it is easy to read and the contents are simply explained.
I carry it with my almost everywhere and I never get tired of reading it, because I know I will be learning so much!
The book has individual sections for each of the most important electrolytes in the body, but also contains sections for the fluid and electrolytes alterations in the endocrine system, GI, post-op, etc. OUTSTANDING book and I will encourage every student nurse to buy it you will be amazed by the amount of knowledge you will attain.
The case scenarios at the end of the chapters are extremely interesting and will help you put the whole picture together.
