We recently moved into an older home, I had three toilets to fix. I first put this contraption on one toilet, and it seemed to work OK. So I decided to use it for the other two. After installing one unit, I found the "flapper" valve was not staying in place on the unit itself (faulty manufacturing), resulting in a toilet would not stop running (we had to use the water valve at the wall to fill and use the toilet). Figuring out the problem took some time and wasted quite a bit of water. I finally returned it for another. After installing it, I could not set it properly so that it would work each time correctly. The third toilet has never really worked at all, requiring a full flush as the half-flush never performed properly. Now after several weeks, the original unit in the first toilet is having problems. In addition, as others have mentioned, I have had much difficulty in getting the sticky-gasket material to seal completely. Two of the units continue to have leakage, whereby every several hours they will run shortly to top off the tanks. So after much futility, I'm wondering how Lowe's will react if I return these. BTW, I am an accomplished handyman, capable of completing fairly involved projects (replacing main water valves, replacing drywall, masonry/stucco work, welding, car repair, etc), so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. I also have a PhD in electrical engineering, working in product design and development. Noting my experience, capabilities, and background, I hope you don't make the same mistake I did.

**Updated with 5 stars for customer service response**

I purchased this product a few months back (different retailer), but encountered constant leaking that drains the tank slowly. The leaking is caused by a faulty flush seal, the light-grey, rubber ring that is supposed to seal the tank-to-bowl connection. This seal is very flexible and easily distorted. It pulls out of the groove in the black circular piston on the flush valve. It has to be pushed back into place for it to work correctly. This happens appx. once ever week or two. It was quite an annoyance, but easily fixed once I discovered the problem, and not worth a one-star review!

I got sick of this constantly happening. I emailed the company about the issue. They were very helpful and shipped me complete replacement kit, free of charge, when all I wanted was a replacement seal! The seal on the new version, which had new packaging, was clear plastic, and much firmer. I have been using this version for over a month now, with no issues with leaking. Thanks, Fluidmaster, for prompt and generous customer service!

If you purchased the older version I had, the package will have the "DuoFlush" logo in white font on dark blue background. The newer version has the "DuoFlush" logo in green and blue font on a white background. The newer version works exactly as advertised, and I have not run into a single problem with it!

**Original review, applies to old version ***

I see lot of one star reviews due to constant leaks after flushing. I have found that the problem isn't the flush cable, but the seal in the flushing mechanism. The seal pulls out of the seating from time to time. To fix the issue, turn off the water, pull the mechanism off the base, and check the circular seal.

Having purchased Duo Flush system conversion kit and installing it with ease, we were dismayed to discover that it did not seal well, resulting in seeping from the tank and the bowl and refilling every several minutes to refill the tank. Took it apart three times and finally got it to seal, at least it is not seeping as fast. It looks like the angled seat adapter is off-kilter. Oh, well. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

This intriguing impulse-buy at the local hardware store gave me high hopes that we could save some water. I've had it for about 3 months.

At first it worked only sporadically on the "up flush" (the water-saving flush). When I let go of the handle, the flush stopped immediately and the bowl didn't complete the flush. Fine, so I held the handle up for a couple of seconds and tried to "guess" when to release it for a partial flush. I've actually gotten pretty good at that, which is good because now I have to do it on every single flush. I have experimented with all of the device settings - no improvement.

The "down flush" (full flush) seems to work fine and always has.

Now, however, the tank is leaking into the bowl, causing the tank to top itself off every few minutes. I hate that dripping sound followed by the sound of water filling up the tank. Also, I'm not an environmental scientist, but that doesn't seem like "conserving water" to me.

I cannot characterize this as a #1 device. No, I'd have to say it's a big #2.

I bought this from another vendor and wish I had never picked it up. It says that it will save $120.00 yearly in water but it cost a third for a inferior product. This first night It was leaking constantly and would flush every two minutes. This is a common complaint by others about this item. I kneaded the adhesive at two in the morning and reapplied the ring and the leak stopped. It should not leak from the factory and more adhesive and better placed adhesive from the factory would stop this common complaint. The valve is operated by a cable and a up flush is for liquids and a down flush is for solid. The flushes are inconsistent and even with the half flush and full flush settings maxed out it never lets enough water unless you hold the valve for 3-5 seconds. The up flush hits the toilet lid and further impedes the flush. My advice is to get a good Korkey flapper and regulate a liquid flush by pressing down slightly on the lever. Stay away from this crappy product. Good luck.
