If you are thinking about this piece of junk, give it four more thoughts before buying.

Like others, I had the same problem - after flushing the main valve would stick open, and the water would continue running.

It's ironic that something that is billed to "save water" will waste more water when it's not in use.

Fluidmaster Dual Flush Valve System is pricier than other dual flush systems but I chose it because of the 5 year warranty and the flush lever is conventional.

Pushing down on the flush lever is a full flush, just like a normal toilet. You won't have to tell guests how to flush. Pushing up on the lever is the half flush for non-solid waste. It is a complete integrated system that replaces the flush lever, fill valve and flapper on a normal toilet.

The installation is lengthy but the instructions and diagrams are excellent. I would have rated it with all 5 stars except I had a sealing problem between the tank and bowel. My Kohler toliet has a rubber piece that seals all three bolts and the tank and bowel. The supplied gasket was too small to use, so had to modify and reuse my old gasket.

I bought this a year or so ago when 1991 vintage Kohler model toilet had a slow leak. I didn't realize what I was getting into at the time when I bought it, thinking it would be a relatively simple replacement. Be warned however that it requires detaching everything from the toilet except the base and replacing it. It was a long and unpleasant process trying to get old rusty fittings off etc.

Finally after an hour or two I got the thing together and working, but working with the kit I just felt the quality wasn't good. The dual flush handle is a chintzy plastic affair with a plastic connector to do the flush action (I'd liken it to a plasticky version of a bike brake cable.) Also the dual flush valve mechanism seems needlessly complicated and requires a hack saw to get adjusted correctly. After I installed it, I wisely hedged my bets and saved the old flush handle in case the thing died.

While it did work fine in the beginning, I never really got the dual flush setup to work correctly and in the end it seemed to use the same amount of water either way. I probably could have adjusted it better, but it's quite a pain to play around with the thing to test it. Six month later the filler valve got very noisy but eventually quieted down. Finally yesterday the flush handle mechanism just gave out and I decided to trash the whole thing and put back in a simpler mechanism. I was very disappointed and wouldn't recommend this product.

FAILED THE FIRST YEAR - We purchased three Fluidmaster dual flush kits, one for each of the toilets in our home. All three failed within the first year. Same problem with each, the mechanism sticks and water continues to run. Fluidmaster replaced the units under the warranty, but there appears to be a basic flaw in the design and/or quality of these units. We expected more reliability from a water control device.

Like others, I have an issue with the flush valve sticking. Jiggling the handle doesn't work for me. I have to open the tank and push the overflow tube down forcing the flush valve shut.

I will be tearing this thing out and putting a product in place that doesn't waste gallons of water and force my bill up....

I bought this product for all three of my bathrooms. The installation was tough at first but the last 2 went pretty smooth. The problem started in the master bath where I installed the first kit. The valve started sticking (open) after about 3 months. Okay, maybe it's a bad kit... Then the second kit that was installed 3 months later started sticking!!! So now I'm waiting on the 3rd bathroom's kit to start sticking.

This is a good idea but the product wastes more water than is saves since the toilet will keep running forever if you don't open the tank and push the valve back down. There have been a few days where the wife flushed the toilet, went to work and I come home to a running toilet that has been running for over 8 hours! I can't wait to see my water bill...

I'm converting all of them back to the standard toilet kit this weekend.

It was with high hopes of saving on my water bill that I purchased the Fluidmaster Dual Flush conversion kit for $45 rather than going with the standard model for $15. How could I lose?! I was sure it would pay for itself within the first couple of months. How wrong I was!

The installation was long, complicated, requires taking the toilet apart for installation. The instructions were very poor and difficult to follow. It requires screwdrivers, wrenches and even a hacksaw! Video instructions were available online which was a great help, however it added extra time to an already complicated procedure. It took me over an hour to do an installation that typically takes 10 minutes with standard products.

Then came the adjustments...... No matter what I did with the dual floats, they never changed the water level and the short flush ended up using the same amount of water as the long flush. Eventually, it began to work correctly after about a week, but you can imagine my frustration that it did not operate correctly from the first installation. Even now, I still have to flush twice even with the long flush.

As for saving water, the flush valve get stuck continually and I can't count how often I have flushed only to return 10 minutes later to find the toilet still running! This has been a continual problem and I have easily wasted twice the water that I should have saved. Apart from the fact that this unit is 3 times the price of a standard replacement unit, I am spending more money every month on wasted water (which is not cheap out here in the desert!).

Do yourself a favor and stick with the standard "cheap" replacement parts. You won't regret it.
