it held the horn/outlet really hard,
By
This review is from: Fluidmaster Wax Free Bowl Gasket (Misc.)
I installed it on the toilet outlet to check it's hold and since the area was wax free and it held hard. I tried to remove it to follow the directions but it held so tough I said it would be easier to just put the large o-ring (for me) since my copper/metal flange was kind of cupped and drop the toilet and all in as a unit. This toilet has bugged me and eaten about 6 wax rings since the tile job because the toilet rocks. Now it's flush with no rocking and no possibility of the dreaded wax ring side leak. Very happy even though it hasn't been in long. It makes so much more common sense than a wax ring ever did. I also had the fernco and was going to try it but it wouldn't fit in my pipe. My pipe was 3". I cleaned my toilet outlet with brake cleaner (cuts the wax good but a little stinky) and then purple power both with brass wire brushes. turned to toilet upside down in the shower to rinse the soapy residue haha. Why did I do that? 1. Common sense and 2. Thought it would work and surprise it did.

Does not fit all toilets; check before buying.,

Neither the manufacturer nor any online plumbing forum I've seen cautions that these products do not fit on all toilets. I bought three of them and only discovered that I couldn't use them after I'd tried to install them and couldn't. I ended up using wax rings after all.
My old toilets from the early 1950s are actually too well designed to use this kind of product. The horn on the bottom of my toilets where this would mount actually extends down past the floor and fits close inside the top of the 4" closet flange. It's a great design that minimizes leaks better than modern toilets, but there's no room for this wax-free seal between the horn and the flange. I discovered the hard way that these things evidently are designed for newer toilets only, whose horns (1) don't extend down past the floor into the flange, and/or (2) are considerably less than 4" in diameter. If you're planning to use this on an old toilet, you'd better pull the toilet first and make sure this will fit. It's inconvenient, but I'd have saved a bunch of time and money if I'd known to do it. I don't like giving a mediocre rating to a product that may very well be great, but the manufacturer should do a better job of warning that you may not be able to use it. That obviously matters most when you're ordering online, and returning an unusable product is such a hassle.

Say good bye to wax seals,

This is an excellent product and is easy to install as well as versatile. I originally purchased the Fernco FTS-4 and found that it does not work on 4" cast iron pipe with a 3.75" I.D. even though Fernco states it will work on cast iron pipe. When I spoke to the Fernco Tech Support, they said it will only fit pipes with an I.D. between 3.96"-4.02". I was not totally impressed with the adhesive on the Fernco either as it is questionable on how it will hold up in the long run. Aternatively, I then purchased the Fluidmaster 7504 and am very confident this will perform to specs. If you know the size of your pipe, I would recommend getting the dedicated size. The 7504 is for 4" pipe and the 7503 is for 3" pipe. The 7500 is adaptable to 3" and 4". I personally prefer the dedicated 7504 as it has a larger opening with only one sleeve. The 7500 has two sleeves which lock into each other and an additional o-ring is used. Because of the two sleeves, this reduces the opening. With the 7504 or the 7503, less is better as there are fewer parts to fail and the openings are larger. I installed the neoprene gasket to the toilet horn first and then lowered the toilet with the sleeve down into the floor collar. This procedure is better than the instructions state because you can push the gasket all the way on the horn and secure it firmly for a secure tight fit. Two o-rings come with the unit, a thick one and a thin one. I used the thicker o-ring on the sleeve which compresses as it slides down the collar for a nice tight fit. No chance for leaks or fumes. The Fluidmaster also comes with all corrosion resistant brass mounting bolts, brass washers and brass nuts which is a nice touch compared to the Fernco product which doesn't come with any hardware. Definitely makes wax seals obsolete. The Fluidmaster is reusable if the toilet needs to be pulled. It can also be switched over to another toilet if you are replacing your toilet. Try that with a wax ring! No messy wax to scrape off either. Fluidmaster 7504 Wax Free Bowl Gasket for 4 inch Drain Pipe by Fluidmaster, IncFluidmaster 7500P8 Wax-Free Bowl Gasket

Fluidmaster wax-free toilet bowl gasket is an excellent product. We live in Arizona and do RV and mobile home repairs. At the end of our very hot summers, our Snowbird customers return to their homes and trailers to find the wax seal has melted and their toilet leaks. No fun for us to fix either. We installed the first one for a lady who bought it at Home Depot. It was a bit difficult to figure out exactly how to install it because the instructions are more complicated than the actual installation. She was very pleased and we ordered several and installed them for other people with flush toilets telling them that they would not need to call us to replace their seal every fall. We have had 0 complaints or problems, in fact it is an excellent product for people with uneven floors where the toilet rocks and does not seal. We recommend it to anyone and installation is simple. Price at AMAZON is quite reasonable. ONLY PROBLEM - WORKS SO WELL, WE DON'T HAVE REPEAT CALLS FOR LEAKY WAX RINGS - but our customers rave to their friends so we get more business.
It's a WIN/WIN product!

I have had 2 of these in my house for about 10 years or more now. I used to have to replace the wax rings every few years, but these have lasted with NO problems in 10 years.
I also have a camp with a weak floor that resulted in the wax rings failing more often. Clearly, the right way to fix that problem is to wrip the floor up and replace it. But the Fluidmaster Wax-Free Bowl Gasket works great in that situation too. As a bonus, you do not have to replace this if you remove your toilet and it is easier to install than a wax ring. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

These are ingenious! Way better than a wax ring (wax rings have limited life and ultimately fail.) This simply works better, are nowhere near as messy, *and* won't fail.

best idea in plumbing since plastic pipe!,
This review is from: Fluidmaster Wax Free Bowl Gasket (Misc.)
I think that all toilets/ houses should use waxless seals. I have actually used the Fernco system which is superior to this product as it glues to the base of the toilet. I don't think the fluidmaster glues to the base of the toilet. It practically eliminates leaks at the base of the toilet. It solves two problems 1) the area between toilet and the seal and 2)the seal and the flange. the seal glues to the base of the toilet. I have installed two of them. one on a new toilet which is ideal and one which previously had a wax ring. When there was a previous wax ring it is critical to remove all wax. i used gasoline as a solvent to remove the wax which remained. After this i used a hair dryer to gently heat the cone of the base of the toilet to improve the adhesion of the adhesive. This item overcomes problems of a flange that is too low due to a remodeled floor(the flange should be mounted on the surface of the finished floor) and leaks caused by toilet rocking on an uneven floor. Many times the bathroom will have bad odors and a wet areas around the base of the toilet. Most assuredly you have a leak at the wax ring. you need one of these to solve the problem. Taking up the toilet and resetting this is a simple but slightly complex job that requires removal of the toilet and resetting it. One needs to be somewhat DIY competent to accomplish this. I recommend fixing all the problem areas of the toilet at this time.. install a flexible supply tube to the toilet from the stop valve and I recommend using plastic toilet bolts to secure the toilet to the flange.. see the following links.. Fernco makes a very similar product and I suspect they are probably made at the same factory as they look very similar. Fernco is superior as it glues to the base of the toilet.

This college kid right here is now a plumber of practice. Straight up accidentally blew up my toilet with an m80. New toilet sat too high because flange was too low, flange broke, rotten floor, stacked wax rings leaked; everything was going wrong and it was only a matter of time until my landlord found out, had a field day with a plumber, and stuck me with the 2K bill. THIS LITTLE DEVICE SAVED MY ASS SO BAD, THANK YOU AND I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!

Tried the 7500 while waiting for my Fernco's,
This review is from: Fluidmaster Wax Free Bowl Gasket (Misc.)
I ordered the Fernco for the 4x3 which is what I have based on the other reviews but the company I ordered them from has not shipped them until the first day it was suppose to arrive so found a Fluidmaster 7500 at the local home improvement store. Tried it out on the horn of the toilet think of gluing it like the Fernco works but it is a very secure tight seal and hard to pull of so I'm not worried about that. However it comes with two small O-rings and one large and an adapter to fit into 4 inch pipe they say to slip the O-ring on to the seal and try it into the pipe to see which one you need. So having a 4x3 floor flange I used the seal without the adapter tried the big o-ring it would not even come close however when the small o-ring was used it was loose so gas would escape looking into the pipe closer I could see where the flange was glued to the pipe which was a butcher job pipe hacked off uneven and not even close to the top slipped the large o-ring in and it would seal where the small one would not touch the sides of the flang. So thinking here we go will have to wait two weeks for the other seals to arrive I used a little penetrating oil like wd40 put the o-ring on the seal and used a flat paint stir stick to work the o-ring in then put the paper spacer in and on went the toilet. As the toilet was pushed down to the floor there was resistants so I knew it was going to seal on the horn from the earlier trail fit also there was a snap sound when the paper spacer collapsed almost like it broke pulled it up and all was fine so in the long run they do work just looking at the Fernco it would be easer then what I went though which glues onto the horn and looks to have a flip over seal at the bottom which would have went past the gap and sealed in the pipe.
