I currently have a Fluke 87V and one of the lead jacks is loose. I purchased the Fluke 116 to use while I send the 87V in for repairs. However after using the 116 I am going to keep it as my main meter since it does the majority of the functions I use daily and is lighter.

This is a great meter for an HVAC professional since it does micro amps, as many other meters do not. Also has capacitance test (static read only). Has an auto feature as well that will distinct between AC and DC voltage, very handy when your troubleshooting a circuit board that has both types of signals.

I purchased another name brand digital meter for a back up since the price was much lower than the Fluke 116, however returned only after one day since it was very slow to respond/update the display, which is not ok for professional use.

The M/M works great so far, I have just had it for a short period of time. Took it out today and it worked great. I have always purchased Radio Shack meters and they have done the job but have always wanted a Fluke, since we used them in the AF and they really took a beating crawling in and out of air planes, in the cold, heat and rain. I can't remember ever replacing any of our meters and as I said they took a pretty good beating considering the various skill levels that used them on a daily basis.

I use this for automotive work on my 1989 BMW 325i and other cars. I bought this mostly because it's made by Fluke and I was not disappointed: build quality is great and there are lots of specialized test leads available from 3rd parties that will work perfectly with this. Of great usefulness is the min / max function which is perfect for recording anomalies like power surges which you would otherwise miss. In addition to the voltmeter I use the continuity tester a lot for checking relays.

I have my own computer repair business, and wanted a multimeter to take the guess work out of power issues in desktops and laptops, now i probably could have got a much cheaper unit, but when i was an auto tech the shop used fluke meters, and i was sold on the quality performance and precision,of Fluke,.you want the best you have to spend, but in the long run Fluke meters stand the test of time, fast shipping, everything was perfect right out of the package.

I do Hvac work I use 116 almost everyday it replaced a older 116 that died. Its a durable meter I dropped it a few times with no problems. I didn't like the meter leads that it comes with, they are a little short for me. I ordered some longer fluke ones. It detects the voltages very fast and capacitors.
