Fluke Networks MS2-100 MicroScanner2 Cable Verifier
Streamline verification testing and rule out service problems fast
The MicroScanner2 Cable Verifier presents a revolutionary change in voice, data, and video cable testing. It starts by taking results from what was four different test modes and displaying them all at once – graphical wiremap, pair lengths, distance to fault, cable ID, and far end device. What’s more, its integrated RJ11, RJ45, and coax cable test ports support virtually any type of low-voltage cable testing with no need for awkward adapters. The end result is reduced test time and technician error. That makes high-quality installations more efficient than ever.
Today’s communications technicians have a lot more problems to deal with than just the cabling. They have to rule out a whole host of potential cable and service issues before determining the cause of a connection problem. Is there telephone voltage? What’s the polarity? Is there an Ethernet switch at the far end? Is PoE available? MicroScanner2 acknowledges this, giving technicians high power vision to verify today’s most common voice, data, and video services. That means faster, more comprehensive troubleshooting.
Yesterday’s cable verification testers force users to toggle between up to four different modes of operation to view all test results. This not only slows the test process, but also causes frustration and leads to high user error rates. MicroScanner2 has defeated this convention by displaying key test results – wiremap, pair lengths, distance to fault, cable ID, and far end device – all on one screen.
Tired of losing or breaking all the adapters needed for testing the various voice, data, and video media types? MicroScanner2 makes these awkward adapters things of the past with built-in RJ11, RJ45, and coax support. Both the main unit of this cable tester and the far-end identifiers can be used to test telephone jacks, Ethernet jacks, and CATV outlets right out of the box. Just one more way MicroScanner2 streamlines cable verification.
Locate elusive cables in seconds
MicroScanner2 features built-in IntelliTone digital and analog toning to precisely locate virtually any cable or wire pair, regardless of work environment. Use digital mode to locate high-grade data cabling (Cat 5e/6/6a) in bundles, or at switches, patch panels, or wall outlets. Or, use analog mode on voice-grade cabling (Cat 3 and below), as well as coax, security/alarm, and speaker wiring.
VDV Service Detection
Voice, data, video technicians have a lot more problems to deal with than just the cabling. They have to rule out a whole host of potential cable and service issues before determining the cause of a connection problem. MicroScanner2 acknowledges this, giving technicians high power vision to detect today’s most common service problems. Detect the presence of POTS voltage and verify polarity. Verify powered 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches at the far end. Or, confirm proper PoE voltage and pairs.
With all the abuse you put your tools through, you can’t afford for them to be delicate. MicroScanner2 features a rubber wrap-around holster that makes it the right tool for even the toughest jobs. Toss it into your toolbox. It can handle it. Plus, this cable tester now comes standard with a vinyl carry pouch for enhanced protection and convenience.
Large, backlit LCD of cable tester makes results crystal clear whether in bright sunshine or in a dark closet.

I'll break it down so you can decide if you need the whole kit or just the Microscanner 2
The main unit in this kit it the Microscanner 2. It is built into a fairly rugged housing - enough to protect it from occasional drops from reasonable heights - I wouldn't drop it off of a 2-story house or anything, but it should survive being dropped from a 6-foot ladder or the top of a large server rack.
The remote terminator is built into the blue snap-on cap that covers up the RJ-11/45 and coaxial jacks on the top of the unit.
It is simple enough to use - simply plug one end of your cable into the MS2 and the other end into the remote terminator and watch the magic happen. The MS2 displays cable length, PoE, and a wire map to diagnose/verify the type of cable you're connected to.
What you can verify/Diagnose:
Distance to fault.
The MS2 is also a toner - so you can use it in conjunction with any analog or digital toner probe to locate cables.
This tool alone should be in every installer's tool bag. - The price is a bit high, but it will pay for itself in time saved if you're installing cable on a regular basis. This tool is not recommended for a home user or a one-off installation. This is a tool for Professional Network installers and technicians.Read more ›
it will give you a pair map and the length. the length is determined without the end terminator being needed, cool. you can use the tool to detect POE or switch connections on the other end of the cable. And you can trace cables and ports and things with this.
the tester will not give you a qualification or a speed capability tho, i found the fluke site and forums to have varying information on this. so to be clear, it does not do it.
Lives depend on temporary communication.
We can quickly resolve cable issues, to keep our crews communicating in the direst of times, when we have this scanner on hand.
Found one wire missing on a cable terminated by a electrician; so we moved/tested a second line that passed.
The feature of it recognizing a switch on the other end is great! Having the measurements appear is also a good bennie.
No more calibrations to do (like the past cable testers I've used) and even though it takes batteries, at least they are not proprietary.
Very fast to power on, get the readings you need and back in your bag. Love it!
