Outstanding advances have been gained in caries prevention, including fluoride applications, development of sugar substitutes, and control of intra-oral acid formation. "Caries Research" has received international recognition for its contribution to the dissemination of new knowledge in these and related fields. Coverage of human and animal experimental work directs this journal to the investigator, while results of clinical trials with a bearing on treatment and hygiene management should also be of value to the practising dentist. This volume is based on a workshop on various topics related to fluoride in the light of changing conditions, held in Amsterdam in November, 2000.
