3.0 out of 5 stars Not for all Trance lovers. Only for die-hard Oakenfold fans.
This is very early Trance/Techno that is mixed well but not as well as some of Oakenfold's better works like Tranceport (his best CD to date) or Great Wall (His 2nd best).

This is more industrial club DJ music that is fast trance, with lots of very early beeps and beats. I would only recommend this one if you are a die-hard Oakenfold fan or if you want to listen to some...

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Oakenfold, January 22, 2001
Due to the price, I put off buying this for a long time. That doesn't mean you should! Listening to this, listening to other Oakenfold sets and seeing him live - you really understand why this man is so amazing! His unique understanding of music coupled with his extremely eclectic taste, makes for a fascinating listening experience. Take the last part of disc two, for instance. How does Oakey end his set? Two dark trance bangers are followed by (drumroll, please) JUNGLE! Don't start shaking your head now, because it works! And that's the great thing about Oakenfold.

"Perfecto-Fluoro" is basically a showcase of Goa Trance artists signed on Oakenfold's Perfecto-Fluoro label, back at the height of Goa's public appeal (1996). While the sound quickly wore out its welcome (This month's issue of "Muzik" even gave Oakenfold a "Goa denial rating") this album shows that "Oakey" truly believed in the style. Tracks by artists such as Juno Reactor and Man With No Name are mixed alongside film soundtrack music by composers Wojciech Kilar ("Dracula"), Ryuichi Sakamoto ("Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence"), and the venerable Ennio Morriccone ("The Mission"). There's even a snippet of Barber's Adagio for Strings straight out of "Platoon." And it's not half as cheesy as its interpolation into Skip Raiders "Another Day."

By no means is this "original" Goa Trance. The sound had been evolving since the 1980's and Oakenfold was actually one of the last to catch on. BUT, he made the first real effort to bring it to public attention.

People try and compare Paul Oakenfold with Sasha and Digweed (two fine DJs in their own right). These DJs spin different (though at times, overlapping) styles of music! Sasha & Digweed have always spun house music (though the line between house and trance is increasingly blurred these days with 'Hard House' and 'Progressive Trance') and Oakenfold has spun everything from hip-hop to house and beyond. The man may not be the most clever DJ, but he's broken more records than anybody.

This man's all over the map, musically; so it's a shame that people try to lump him in one category. Buy "Perfecto-Fluoro: Oakenfold" and keep an open mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!!, December 6, 2000
This was the first Oakenfold mix I ever heard, and by far the best. I have been searching for something similar for about 3 years now, and I am continually disappointed. If you are looking for tired, cheesy, overdone house and techno just live every other DJ mix out there, you won't find it here.

Disc 1 is a little more mainstream of the two, but still very good. It begins at a moderate pace, and then slows down for a brief film-score interlude before jumping into some upbeat trance with "Mystery Land" and "This Love." Following is another slower interlude, which and then rockets into the very electronic tracks "Teleport," "Conspiracy," and "Sugar Rush." The rest of the set continues in this manner, intellignetly changing tempoes and attitudes throughout.

Disc 2, which by itslef is the greatest CD I have ever heard, is an amazing mix of pounding techno and electronica (i.e. "Kabalah"), mixed with light and ambient film score ("Adagio for Strings" right out of "Platoon"), mixed with some excellent drum & bass ("Revisions"), and mixed still with some incredible darker trance tracks ("Real Nightmare"). The constant change in tempo and attitude will keep you listening attentively, and keeps playing with your emotions as they progress. True, at first glance (and even while you are listening) these songs appear to have no business being on the same CD, but they are so incredibly mixed that you will fall in love with them all.

A lot of people complain about the music contained in this set, saying it is nothing like Oakenfold's "other stuff." Well, this is true, it is *very* different. Some do not like the inclusion of the slower tracks, but I find them emotional and inspiring. Overall they only add to the experience of this already incredible mix. This is the best trance and techno mix I have ever listened to, but those of you who don't agree are entitled to that... it certainly is very different. It's very hard to compare this to anything else I've heard, so I can't really recommend it based solely on comparison, which makes paying the import price that much harder. But if you can relate to anything I've said above, it is truly worth it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Error on Track Listing!, December 11, 2000
By
Kevin Teeter (Seattle, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
Paul Oakenfold - Fluoro Disc 2. THe name of the first track on Disc 2, is "Craven Leaves" NOT "Graven Leaves" as you have on your website. Also, this is a 2 disc set, not one disc with 26 tracks. The First cd is 15 tracks long, and the last track on disc one is "Floor Space" Disc Two starts with "Craven Leaves" and ends with Revisions. I hope this helps out all of the Oaky fans out there. kteeter69

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Oakenfold, November 28, 2000
This is one of the most amazing DJ sets I've ever heard, apart from the classic Goa Mix, of which Perfecto Fluoro is essentially a part two. For those of you who complain about this being goa trance, this is some of the most emotive music that was being pushed at the time. Compared to the pap that is currently pushed as "trance" this music is a masterpiece. Pick it up and hear what Oakenfold sounded like when he was still pushing new sounds and going beyong the boundaries of being a "hits" DJ. For those of you with the will to search around, you can still find CD copies of the Goa Mix Part One. If you're an oakenfold fan currently, look up some of his older tunes and learn that theres more to trance than what you heard on Tranceport and GU New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best blend of classical and electronica ever., December 13, 2003
I was fortunate enough to get this first time around in the UK (The 2 disc version), where it failed to sell many copies on release unfortunately. But it is probbaly my most played album over the past few years.

The true talent of Oakenfold shines through here, as both a mixer and also as an ear for great music. The way the music flows from beautiful classical score to deep and thoughtful trance and back again has never been bettered. This is one of the few albums that I would say is beautiful, perfect for listening to in a darkened room or with your eyes closed.

I am even more impressed now as a number of these artists were not even household names in their own house at the time. The brilliant Astral Projection, Transa, Y Traxx and Man With No Name steal the show in my opinion but the album in quality from start to finish.

Disc 1 starts in chill out mode and regularly returns there in between some very cool sections of Goa and Trance.

Disc 2 is slightly harder overall but starts out with the achingly beautiful chimes of Zbigniew Preisner (Craven Leaves), quite possibly one of the most eerily beautiful tunes I've heard in a long long time.

Just out of inteest here is the full track listing (with artist).

Disc 1
01 H.H.C. - We're Not Alone
02 Ryuichi Sakamoto (Duplicate) - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
03 Y Traxx - Mystery Land
04 Red Sun - This Love
05 Ryuichi Sakamoto (Duplicate) - Little Buddha
06 Man With No Name - Teleport
07 Terrorvision - Conspiracy
08 Man With No Name - Sugar Rush
09 Eric Serra - Cute Name
10 State Of Emergency - Banks Of Babylon
11 Juno Reactor - Jungle High
12 Ennio Morricone - Miserere
13 Virus - Moon
14 Grace - If I Could Fly
15 Our House - Floor Space

Disc 2
01 Zbigniew Preisner - Craven Leaves
02 Johann - New Kicks
03 Samuel Barber - Adagio For Strings
04 Astral Projection - Kabalah
05 Wojciech Kilar - Love Remembered
06 Transa - Prophase
07 X-Section - Atlantis
08 Björk & David Arnold - Play Dead
09 Ozaka OZ - Real Nightmare
10 Legend B - Lost In Love
11 Jamie Myerson - Revisions

Truely inspiring, I only wish that there were more like this. 5 out of 5 in any language.

I know I paid only £25 for this (about $25) at the time, but it really is worth the $48 or whatever it is these days. You will never regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flourine, May 22, 2001

Zephaniah (Mountain, WI United States) - See all my reviews
Oakey is my god. This is Oakey at his absolute best. While the mixing on some parts of this CD may not be as smooth as some of his newer compilations, i guarentee you, this is by far the best trance compilation I have ever heard. This is what I consider true trance, kinda deep, some world beat, while still a true dance floor killer. The first minute of disc one will tell you what this cd is all about. CD1 is the deep melodic trance, CD2 is the hard acid house, while the gradually transends into an all out goa explosion (New Kicks is a great song btw). This song is a wet dream from heaven. If you like this CD, check out his Goa Mix Silver (Which you can find on Napster, its a bootleg.), and Journey into Trance. While these mixes dont show off Oakey's current style, I enjoyed them more than any of that new junk Oakey canes out (Another World in particular, Travelling was ok.). Oh, and don't let the price on this scare you away, buy it asap. You won't be dissappointed, this style of music is what spread the Oakey hype pre-tranceport and Another World.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfecto Fluoro, April 14, 2000
This is an excellent mix. Considered by many to be Oakey's finest acomplishment, 'Fluoro' weaves back and forth between intelligent psychadelic trance and majestic cinematic soundscapes. If your looking for a tacky dose of euro-trance, this is not it. Try the 'Ibiza Euphoria' serries or anything Judge Jules has done recently. These tracks are all of the highest quality. This mix is geared toward the intelligent listener. It's classic, Oakey at his finest. BTW - 'Resident' is also highly reccomended. If you're just trying to jump on the Oakenfold bandwagon, you're not going to like this mix. If you've been around a while, and you have an ear for good electronic music, pick this up a.s.a.p.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, July 23, 2001
This is, in my opinion, the best work Mr. Oakenfold has ever done. It's a masterpiece. Flawless. I have heard over 15 different sets from Oakey and this is the best. It's true this other works are moving, but this is off the scale. This is "beautiful" music and it has the emotional capablilites to make you cry at certain points. It's that beautiful. If you are a fan of Oakenfold, why don't you have this? Get it, you will not be disappointed. The man is a genius and this is his masterpiece to the world. And oh yeah..i get to see Oakey on Thurs. aren't you jealous?

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this cd is what Oakenfold Fans must Own......, January 21, 2002
Paul Oakenfold, doing what he wants on a cd, mixing classical music, sound tracks and crazy trance... Probably the most classic trance cd ever made... If you are an Oakenfold fan and you do not own this album don't call yourself an Oakenfold fan, becasue you are not.... This cd is what Oakie is all about... See when I heard this cd I thought that this man is the greatest DJ in the world and the world will know about hm soon....BUt this is what POakie loves and this is what Oakie fans love about oakie, great music mixed to perfection.
Mixing Adagio for Strings in to Art of Trance into Blade Runner soundtrack... now that is what I loved Oakie for...
He came out with Transport, put a lot of realy hard to find popular trance on there and people loved, not because of what okie is all about but becasue of his selections...
Now he is back to doing what he was used to doing back in the day, and every one else is like this does not sound like oakie... thise are the Oakefold fans that never baught fluro.... BUy this cd and you will learn what Oakenfold is all about....

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! Oakenfold is a God, February 8, 2001
This CD is probably my favorite Oakenfold CD. I own quite a few Oakenfold albums so this is a pretty large statement I think. I own Tranceport, the Perfecto one, GU 002 in New York and Creamfields. This album is sooooo good that I went through a three week period when it was pretty much the only thing I listened to. Since then I have moved on with my life but this CD remains a classic in my heart. =cD . I have debated many times with other avid Oakenfold listeners that this is better than Tranceport (which is a tough call). Tranceport is such a powerful album but the middle gets a little lame where as this CD is good pretty much the whole entire way through, (BOTH DISCS). Disc one of the Creamfields CD is also incredibly good but I think that Fluoro comes out on top in the long run because disc 2 of Creamfields is nothing special at all. My Final synopsis is: Oakenfold = God. Fluoro = Musical Orgasm. My pants = soiled due frequently wetting myself while listening to this CD. BUY FLUORO A.S.A.P. if you are any kind of a Trannce Fan and I can safely guarantee that you will not go away unhappy.
