4.0 out of 5 stars The party line..., March 24, 2006

This review is from: Fluoropolymer Applications in the Chemical Processing Industries: The Definitive User's Guide and Databook (Pdl Handbook) (Hardcover)
I congratulate the authors in bringing together a great deal of useful information yet the book is sadly defective. It appears to follow the company or DuPont party line. Failure analysis, for example, analyzes a PVDF lined spool piece. Guess what? DuPont does not produce Kynar or Solef PVDF. Further, the examples of successes are limited to only loyal DuPont resin users and fabricators. Important information was therefore left out. Maybe in a second edition the authors could strive for more balance. They could discuss more failures including their own company's products, though they mentioned several.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fluoropolymers Applications in Chemical Processing Industrie, April 12, 2005

This review is from: Fluoropolymer Applications in the Chemical Processing Industries: The Definitive User's Guide and Databook (Pdl Handbook) (Hardcover)
Fluoropolymers Applications in Chemical Processing Industries is the continuation of a series intended to cover essentially all aspects of fluoropolymers. The previously published two books written by S. Ebnesajjad cover the science, technology and properties of fluoroplastics, such as non-melt processable PTFE (the original"Teflon")and melt-processable ones, such as PFA, FEP and others. The book's subtitle "The Definitive User's Guide and Databook" is just that.It contains a brief introduction to fluoropolymers, including history, fundamental properties and examples of uses. A large section of the publication describes fluoropolymers as materials of construction, particularly their behavior in corosive environment and their selection for corrosion control. Another one deals with manufacturing methods of parts from PTFE and melt-processible fluoroplastics. Other topics closely related to their use in the chemical processing industries are fabrication techniques, design and construction of linings and vessels, failure analysis and cost analysis. Another chapter is dedicated to safety, disposal, and recycling of fluoropolymers. The final chapter covers future trends in resin manufacturing, applications, in the growth of fluoropolymer industries and technological needs specific to the chemical processing industry. There is a total of five appendices, four of them contain a wealth of permeation data and one contains extensive chemical resistance data for a number of commercial fluoropolymers. Glossary of terms and trademark conclude this truly comprehensive work.
