Good like Dave Douglas Quintet or Miles Davis Quintet, March 30, 2008
This review is from: Flurry - Nordic Connect (Audio CD)
If you did a blindfold listening test with Flurry, you might mistake it for a recent Dave Douglas Quintet, if Uri Caine played a mixture of acoustic and electric piano. The Jensens are top-notch players. Ingrid's trumpet playing is reminiscent of Dave Douglas. I'm not sure who to compare Christine's saxophone to, but she's also very good. Pianist Maggie Olim is modern-sounding.
The title track, "Sweet Dream", and "Cowboy" have the melodies that stick out. Even the ones that aren't catchy are similar to the second Miles Davis Quintet (the one I allude to in the title of this review) in that they worm their way into your ear after a couple of listens.
It's low-key, but it works well, and I recommend it. I will also be on the lookout for future CDs by the Jensens.
