This unit is very effective. I have it in a room that is the fartherest from the furnace/air-conditioning. It has made a noteworthy diffrence in the temperature of the room. The fan cycles with the flow of air very nicely and the noise level is not annoying. This unit was a great purcase and has performed better than I expected.

If you can figure out the thermostat dial for the automatic shut-on/shut-off, this product can make the affected room two degrees cooler (although it remains two degrees warmer than the rest of the house). Initially we got it figured out and were pleased, then it got knocked out of whack and took some tinkering to get it set properly again. Now it seems to be working its two-degree magic again. The key is to get it set so that it sucks in the cool air when the A/C is running, but does not suck in the warm air after the A/C stops running.
As for noise, it really is not bad. Even on the High setting, it probably is less noisy than the oscillating fan we already use. Finally, it's not as ugly as I thought it would be, but it has a VERY bright blue light on it that you may want to cover with tape.

I put this in my daughters room upstairs which typically reads about 5 degrees cooler in the winter than the rest of the house. On the low setting this really didn't make a difference, temp difference was less than 1 degree. When I put it on the medium fan setting though we were able to feel a difference it seemed. According to our portable thermostat the room was reading about 2-3 degrees hotter than it was before. I was really impressed it delivered that much, seeing how it doesn't create the heat, it just tries to pull it through the vent. Plus in a 2 story home, the upstairs typically is always colder anyways.
The only down side to this unit is the fan noise. If they put in quieter fans in this this would be awesome. Other than that, really I can't imagine anyone would use this higher than the medium fan speed because medium is not quite at all and high is just too loud for my comfort.

noisey and poor construction,
This review is from: Flush Mount Heating and Air Conditioning Booster Fan, Brown
Although I bought this to use in the garage/workshop, to be effective it had to run on top speed, which was very noisy....fans are 12v computer fans of poor quality power cable has a 110 to 12v block at the plug-in. Unless you have an electrical outlet within a few feet, you'll need an extension cord to plug it in. A month after purchase and installation, one of the fans threw a blade, resulting in excessive vibration and more noise. Tried to take it apart to replace the bad fan, but alas could not get into the casing without breaking the retainer clips. Was a waste of money. Regular box fan works better and much quieter and cheaper.

We purchased a house a year ago knowing full well we were purchasing it with some inherent problems. This notwithstanding, we knew we would need to upgrade the windows as the original windows had not been replaced or maintained. After replacing the windows, though we saw improvement in the average temperature within the house, one room still remained a problem. We knew that the vents in this room where operating below average and knowing the previous owner completed construction without upgrading the existing furnace, it was obvious that one of two things were at fault. Either the ducting had been damaged in the addition and was no longer attached, or an incorrect grading of Y-joint installed. We were faced with two options, find something to boost the output from that specific vent, thereby establishing that the Y-joint was indeed the issue, or rip up floors and walls to replace/repair the ducting.
We came across this fan and opted to try this as a first option, this being the cheaper option and we are pleased to say that it has indeed boosted the airflow and the temperature. I have seen some reviewers rating this lower due to fan noise and airflow etc., to be honest if you want to see an improvement in this area a lot more cost and effort would be required - for example: replacing the furnace and ducting. We, however, just wanted the room warmer in winter and cooler in summer without having to rip open floors and walls and then still have no guarantee of correct operation without installing a second furnace. As for airflow, get a Dysan if you want to feel the air blowing on you or circulating! This is not what this fan is for; its description is a Booster Fan and that is exactly what it does. I love the fact that I can hold my hand over the vent and feel warm air blowing into the room where before there was little to no movement discernible. The controls are VERY easy to operate and if set properly, will do as advertised.

For my purpose, this was a poor purchase choice. And ridiculously loud.
Pro's: fits the vent hole just fine, more visually appealing vent booster compared to other models available, 3 speeds. Con's: annoyingly loud. SLOWED airflow from a high-output vent. Purpose for fan: For use in bedroom, only 1 poorly located vent however very high-flow at baseline. Wanted quiet way to re-direct air-flow straight up and possibly boost the flow as well. Normal vent cover dispersed flow radially and didn't push as much air higher into the 10-ft ceiling room --> warm shoulders, cold feet. Fan's performance: terrible. SLOWED the air-flow, actually filtered back the amount of air flowing through the vent. Also extremely loud even on lowest setting. On high speed - the fan sounded like a higher pitched version of a souped up Honda Civic tailpipe noise-maker. On low speed - fan sounded 1) like the noise maker... going slower and 2) added a whistle sound from the air it was holding back escaping around the rims. This would be of no use in any room you use frequently as it is far too loud for a living room/tv room, bedroom, office. COULD BE OF BENEFIT if you have a home-gym with poor vent output and you only use it while in the gym to cool the area down. You may want the fan if: 1) you're a very deep sleeper, AND 2) your vent is very low output at baseline and this may actually boost output for you, AND 3) you need a night light (the "on" blue light is remarkably bright so if you like darkness, get some black electrical tape before you buy this)

Floor Vents,

Very good item. I bought two. We can tell a huge difference in our living room. Good for floor vents next to an outlet. Too bad they won't work for ceilings. A little loud on high but, not bad at all on low or medium. I would buy again if I need in a different room. Outstanding buy for the price.

I have 2 bedrooms on the 3rd floor of a 3 level townhome, the 2nd and 1st floor is always cool in the summer, but the upper 3rd level is always 10 degrees above the other levels. The register's air movement very of weak. I tried closed the registers at the basement and blocked the air in-let of the basement and it only helps a very little.
I bought 2 of those and put it in one room of the room at the 3rd level. After a couple of hours I can tell a big differences between the 2 rooms. I then experiment it by switching the 2 booster to the other room and found the booster fan really works. I use the high fan setting In terms of the fan noice, it is not as bad as people had described here. I wish the fan can be even stronger to produce more wind! But anyway it works so I'm happy. I'm buying 2 more for the other room.

EASY to Set Auto Start, No problem with Noise or Blue Light,

Got this for my hot bedroom. New addition to my house, 20' x 14' with 2 large windows. Two tiny little floor vents not effective to heat and cool.
Exchanged one floor vent for this flush mount booster fan..played with it a little bit but it turns on when my air condition goes on and shuts off shortly after the air condition stops...exactly what I wanted. I have a floor fan running as well as the ceiling fan in order to cool off this bedroom so the noice by comparison is fine. I do have it set on Auto Cool Mediium Fan. I'll give it a little more time but will probably get a 2nd one for the other floor vent in this room. Where it it located in my bedroom, the blue light is fine. It shines upwards to the ceiling so a nice night light. I've only had it for 3 days now but I am very impressed. This was so easy to 'install' that I had it in the floor and playing with the auto button before I decided to read the short instructions.

I purchased this flush mount booster to replace an HC300 for additional heating. Glad I did. While it does not make a huge difference in heating, it does a better job than the HC300 and looks much nicer. It does enough to make it a worthwhile purchase. It also is quieter than the HC300.
