4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating anecdotal stories
An interesting look at the history of not only how the modern flush toilet was developed, but how modern septic systems evolved from the nightmarish waste systems of the past. Anecdotal stories give a captivating closeup perspective. The author tells the story in a mature and proper way befitting England's premier Royal Plumber.

This is a fun book, but it is not history. Do a Web search for "crapper" at snopes.com or in the wikipedia for discussion.

We use it every day, several times a day -- the humble flush toilet keeps our homes clean, safe, and odor-free. This amusing little book has the wondrous history of this most wonderful and humble of household objects. You'll never look at your toilet in the same way again.

I purchased this book for my father, at his request. He is a plumbing instructor. He was very pleased with the excellent condition of the book as well as the book itself.

An interesting and informative as well as humorous book dealing with a serious subject; something we use everyday, the flush toilet and the improvements made by one Thomas Crapper, a name that became obscene in later years. Very enjoyable reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why we call it a "crapper.", August 31, 2008
This book tells the heroic story of how Thomas Crapper, a lowly British plumber,in a stroke of genius, invented the flush toilet that we all use today.

Crapper's story makes the legends of Edison, Marconi, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, etc.,pale by comparison.

This is a biography about Thomas CRAPPER, what else do I need to say? A man who's name we utter daily in the English speaking world. Who wouldn't want this book in their library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool!, November 18, 2004
The one and only best bathroom reader... uh not so, Uncle John's series is okay... but let's stick to the subject. A real illustrated history of our favorite throne. The only one American 'royalty' is destined to sit on. Enjoy!
