More About the Author

Ashley Setzer began writing The Flute Keeper in 2003 when pushy girl named Emma popped into her head and refused to leave. Since then, Emma has been joined by many other permanent residents who demand equal fame and glory for their adventures in the magical world of Faylinn. When she isn't appeasing her characters, Ashley lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with one husband, two cats, and heaps of books. It is said that she keeps a manticore around to feed solicitors to, but this is only hearsay.

I think it's difficult to take a World you've created and set it on its ear. That doesn't always work favorably. But Ms. Setzer actually, successfully, set her Castle for an air-spin across the country! This doesn't happen to later, and there's lots more going on than that. I began this and I floundered a bit since there was some stuff I didn't remember well. Most series are not designed to stand alone individually, and you definitely must read The Flute Keeper's Training (The Flute Keeper Saga) book #3) before this fourth installment. We didn't have a huge cliffhanger in book three, but our heroine, Emma, was left divided on her path. Whether to join the clergy she was shoved at to better the world, or continue on an unknown path of possible destruction. We start the book and it's pretty obvious the clergy is getting fishy fast! Emma is near a decision and goes to Lev, but she finds he is leaving her. She hastily has a huge fight with him and severs their relationship. Things quickly go downhill from there as she is manipulated by the clergy, and barely escapes with her life. But the evil Duke has come to take over Ivywild, he usurps the throne and all is scattered. The royal family escapes to the human realm and Emma treks across the country, but the Duke's red-capes follow her, and she falls off a house and down a mountain. When she wakes up she is miraculously alive, her savior is a surprising person who quickly becomes her friend and they continue the trek for answers and a way to win back the kingdom. Along the way they meet other refugees, including members from a certain Pirate ship. There is a huge battle against Ivywild, which has been set afloat via evil, alchemical magic..Read more ›

This is a good YA series that adults can enjoy as well. I did a review of the first book as well so for a synopsis without spoilers look at the Flute Keeper. Please read them in order. Very easy reading without it being sub-par writing. I enjoyed the Flue Keeper's Voyage the most which is the second installment. This book includes a lot more intrigue and goes a bit darker than the others. I preferred some of the wit and fun the other books contained that this one seems to lack, but as the storyline gets more serious in this book I understand why it worked out that way.

I just read this book for the second time. I tore through it so fast the first time, I had to read it again. It's amazing. In this book you get points of view of three main characters in three distinct storylines which essentially means three times as much action. And those three storylines come together at the end for a mighty wallop. Brace yourselves. Can't wait for Book 5.
