Authentic East-Indian Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Flute & Sitar Music of India (Audio CD)
This album was recorded in India, I assume in the 1960's. The sound-quality is good, no background-noise or distortion. It's in stereo. The musicianship is also quite good. The pieces are varied, from thumping ragas to orchestral ensembles. An excellent buy for over an hour's worth of authentic Eastern music.

.....eh.Nothing to write home about, nothing at all. I found it utterly boring, myself. One can find much better renditions of these raags on other cd's. I guess they mass produced the living cow-pucky out of this,so that it is re-packaged, sold, re-packaged again, and made into numerous other re-packaged cd's and it never gets any better. If you want to close your eyes and imagine yourself in a hole-in-the-wall curry house in the deep 'anals' of some major U.S. city pretending you are in steamy Calcutta in the late 1950's swatting flies off of your chapati's, then this cd is for you. Somewhere in your dream-state, try to picture an over-head fan with decades of gunk stuck to the blades going round and round with a subtle 'clank' on the 3/4-turn and the near-by sounds of the constant horn-honking from the individual India taxi's --- this music should blend in so naturally for you. If the waiter brings back your change in rupees, you'll have been transported both in time and in reality. |
