Brilliant playing of rather uninteresting music, December 15, 2008

Oh, well. This is one of many recordings of flute music from BIS. Bezaly is definitely one of the best contemporary performers, and this programme certainly showcases her considerable talents. It is eminently well played and well recorded. The downside is that the music, e,g, several opera fantasies, is utterly worthless (except for the Bazzini showpiece which sounds, as expected, better on the violin for which it was intended). It is undemanding music, full of charm - or that was at least the intention, one assumes. In practice, it is mostly rather dull, and can only partially be salvaged by Bezaly's excellent playing. A guarded welcome.
