2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre vampire saga..... sorry
I'm 40 years old. I've read the Twilight series and like most people, loved it. I've read a LOT of other vampire series. I've read classics. I've read a few adult vampire romances but prefer to engross myself in the tamer teen versions.

I'm a writer myself. So let me say this. While Amanda obviously has the drive to complete a complicated series, she...

It's time to do my part & this series makes it so easy to do so! I literally lost a weekend because I could not stop reading this series & am anxiously awaiting the 4th book, "Wisdom" coming out in August! The characters in this book kept me so engrossed & I was caught off guard many a time... it was great feeling for a change! Um... I REALLY hate to says this but... I liked this series better than the Twilight series which I really do love. Only complaint is that the books were far too short -BUT- only because I didn't want to leave their world! I can't wait to read whatever this author graces us with!

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre vampire saga..... sorry, November 7, 2010

I'm 40 years old. I've read the Twilight series and like most people, loved it. I've read a LOT of other vampire series. I've read classics. I've read a few adult vampire romances but prefer to engross myself in the tamer teen versions.

I'm a writer myself. So let me say this. While Amanda obviously has the drive to complete a complicated series, she needs more work on her editing skills and needs to plan out scenes a little more in advance. A lot of times it seems like she's going back almost immediately to explain questions that pop up in the reader's mind. She pulls explanations out of the air that really are not realistic (even in a vampire book).

After reading the first two books in the series, I was somewhat looking forward to reading the third book. Now I'm in the middle of the third book and so disgusted by the mundane amount of action and confusing character moodiness that I'm ready to close it up and start a different series by another author.

If you're reading this to try to determine if you should buy the book, I don't recommend it. If you're a fan, great. Keep reading. Personally, I'm going to wait until the author gets a few more series under her belt to start reading her books again. She has HUGE potential. But needs a lot of polish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than 2nd book, June 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
I am happy to say that I really enjoyed the third book in the series My Blood Approves. Flutter has a lot more action and less all around depression. Alice is now a vampire, and she and Jack are a couple. Shortly after the book opens, Alice and Ezra go try to save Peter from a suicide mission. Peter returns home with them and the love triangle is still a big issue. Milo has a human love intrest, and I was glad that he finally got over Jack. Mae really got on my nerves in this one, but I can definitly see why she does the things she does. I just don't like it.

This third book renewed my intrest in the series. I know Jack and Alice are together now, but I can't help but want her to end up with Peter. Everyone is heading in different directions at the end , and it will be intersting to see how it all pans out. If you lost heart with the series after the second book, you should give the third book a try. The action was an added welcome, and there are a lot of questions that still are left to be answered. One that is really bothering me is about Alice. Why does everyone want her? EVERYONE likes and/or wants her. I know there must be something special about her, so I hope that it is brought up in the next book. I am anxiously awaiting the new release in August!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great, January 10, 2011
I really enjoyed this series and read each and everyone greedily. Because I was already engaged in the story line, I kept reading despite my growing disillusion with the characters. By book 3 in the My Blood Approves series, Alice's constant mood swings, and the manic manner in which each of the Townsend family behaves, I became a little jaded. As well, some situations really lacked in thoroughness and description. I think with some major editing, this series has potential to be really great. The continuing grammar and writing mistakes are a bit frustrating.

1.0 out of 5 stars DISSAPPOINTING, March 22, 2011

This review is from: Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
I felt compelled to write a review for this book, because I am so bothered by how dissappointing it was. I really loved the first book. I devoured it in one day. I'm a big fan of the young adult romance genre, and fell in love with Jack, and thought the whole love triangle thing was interesting. The second book was good too, but towards the end of the book , I could already tell it was headed into annoyoing territory. By the third book, I wanted to feed it to my dog, and had I not purchased the kindle version, I probably would have. The characters all changed! Their personalities changed, they were all very whiny and irritating. It was very odd. Also, I wanted to stab myself in the eye everytime a character said, "can I come with" or "why can't I come with?". Honestly, who says that? I was filling in the sentence with "me" or "you" just to keep myself from going insane. When the characters from Finland or wherever they were from started saying it, I officially lost all hope that the book/series would end well.

I loved the first 2 books, but I will not continue with this series. I think that the character Alice comes accross as if she is stupid in this last book. She can't think for her self, even though through the whole book she claims that she is independent. This book is slow and confused- it was obviously not well thought out. She can not keep a complete thought, and that incomplete thought is canceled out by the last thought that she just had- make up your mind already! I nearly got half way through this book, and than I began skimming through the pages just to finish. It sucked. I had such high hopes, because I loved the first 2 books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too dangerously close to Twilight series, August 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
I love this series I've read the first three books in 2 days. What I'm really getting tired of is her crying and being so winy, your a freak'en vampire now! Also I'm so tired of her choosing between Jack and Peter. If she is in love with Jack then forget Peter. Jack does everything for this winy girl and she constantly hurts him in this book. It was very painful to read. I started hating Alice in this book. She is so into herself and can't make up her mind. Also I've noticed more and more how much this series is getting dangerously close to the Twilight series. I am not happy about that, be original! Lastly the spelling is horrible, some sentences I couldn't even decipher they were so bad. This author needs more time to mature her writing and come up with original ideas. Started off good, but not so good as the series goes on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall okay but series is starting to slow down, February 9, 2011

*Spoilers*

I really enjoyed the first two books in the series and I read them fast because I just could not put them down. Book 3 I read a little slower because I wasn't that into it. I am disappointed in the way some of the characters changed in this book. Mae was impossible to stand, and Hocking managed to turn one of the most lovable characters of the first two books into a complete crazy vampire. I feel like Jack too is changing in this book, he becomes more immature and weak compare to the first two books, that made me angry because I really love Jack. Personally I find Alice to be super annoying as a vampire, instead of turning into a stronger woman she actually accomplishes the opposite. Maybe I didn't care much for the book because of the storyline about Jane, I still don't understand why Alice would be friends with her, but whatever. But, what bothers me the most is the Alice/Peter relationship I don't understand why Hocking continues to write about it, I thought Alice had made her choice already? I feel like Alice spends most of this book convincing herself that she is in love with Jack, but then again goes to kiss Peter, it doesn't make sense to me.

Also, whats up with all the characters biting their lips, chewing the inside of their cheeks or wrapping their arms around themselves, it seems like every character does the same thing over and over again. I swear you can play a drinking game while reading these books, drinking every time one of the characters does one of those things. One last thing, is anyone else annoyed by the fact that she also continues to talk about how hot Peter is? I get it, Peter is hot, but again didn't she already pick Jack. I would like Alice to stop keep drooling over Peter every time she seems him, she is supposed to love Jack.

Overall it was a good continuation to the series but I am hoping the next book will be more exciting.

4.0 out of 5 stars More action than romance, September 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
Lots of action is where Flutter strays from feeling like Twilight. I enjoyed Twilight for the sweet dialogue between the leads. But in Flutter, there's more dialogue and story with side characters that i started skimming through just for Alice and Jack or Peter parts. Team Peter since book 1, i weeped a tear for him here and have my finger crossed for him. Enjoyed Alice's sex scene with Jack. Good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars New myths, new characters, same great theme - STUNNING!, June 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
The marvelous adventures of Ezra, Jack, Mae, Peter, Alice and Milo continue (and Jane - but I have a beef with her--she just isn't a very good friend and she's a worse influence and she's whiny and jealous) in Flutter.

I am completely hooked on these characters now - they are a part of me. I still even swoon over Ezra (oh my goodness - please do not tell my teenager this lol!). In Flutter the story shifts somewhat and Peter and Mae take more center stage. I love when the author goes into the backgrounds of the vampires - I find it fascinating and it's not overdone. It is never set in terms of lecture or put into the plot in such a way as obvious exposition. It flows naturally. You hear what needs to be heard through word and action to propel the story forward and give you understanding.

After 2 books I was amazed there was so much to discover still about all the characters. And my sense is that there is even more yet after book 3.

Here are other things that greatly enhanced my enjoyment of this novel

The author introduced some new myths here about werewolves and vampires. Very interesting take. Along with this we had some new characters as well as a new location. That's pretty gutsy and the risk taken is noted by this reader and applauded.

Again with the same theme which is not tired or old even through book 3: Choices. Those we make, those we understand, the why of what we do. No preaching either.

In this reviewer's opinion the books are getting stronger as is the writing. The next one is top of my to buy list and this series is one I've been recommending to all my friend who have Kindle's and like the genre. Bravo!
