Those Pesky Virtuosos . . ., September 7, 2000
This review is from: Der Fluyten Lust-Hof: Complete Recorder Music (Audio CD)
Well, Dan Laurin has done it again. If you've never heard this superb performer in person, you'll get a taste of his brilliant playing on these nine CDs. As someone who has put a great deal of study and practice into van Eyck, I have constantly looked for inspiration and advice on interpreting this repertoire, and have always come up short. Der Fluyten Lust-hof occupies an important position in any serious recorder player's repertory. It's the only major collection of solo pieces for the recorder and the largest single work in the world for a wind instrument. Thusly, it deserves much attention, especially as it seeks to extend the diminution techniques of the late Renaissance into the seventeenth-century.
Here, Laurin performs on Fred Morgan recorders, patterned after Rosenborg Hand-fluits, in addition to a Ganassi soprano and several Ganassi altos, by Morgan. He also uses an Alto and Tenor, both made from Tea tree, by Paul Whinray.
Dan Laurin shines in this expressive and dazzling collection of "pop-tunes" from the sixteenth-and seventeenth-centuries. He thoroughly lives up to the moniker of Virtuoso. Just the opportunity to hear all the tunes in Der Fluyten Lust-hof is a chance not to be missed, and Laurin will not fail to excite with this excellent collection.

Pure and beautiful sound for your ears!, June 2, 2005
This review is from: Der Fluyten Lust-Hof: Complete Recorder Music (Audio CD)
Jacob van Eyck's "Der Fluyten Lustof" is the only major collection of solo peices for the recorder.
In this 9-CD collection, you will have a chance to listen to all the peices in van Eyck's great music work. Each peice is excellently performed solo, unaccomplished by Dan Laurin, the internationally famous recorder player.
I bought this collection as a learning supplement to my own playing of Der Fluyten Lustof. The 3-volume sheet music by different publishers is also availabe in the market.
If you are a recorder lover, you will enjoy the pure and beautiful sound of these music!
