A Nice Preview To The Solo Album,
By Derrick Dunn "The Realest DJ" (Woodbridge,VA) - See all my reviews

Slim was the smooth voice from 112 who ushered some of the group's biggest hits. On his debut single Slim easily proves he's ready to step out on his own.

It seems that 2008 will see the resurfacing of the Super group 112 in some form or another. While the quartet unanimously decided to release solo albums, I doubt they anticipated competing against each other within the same target release window. It looks like this fall Q. Parker, Michael Keith and Marvin "Slim" Scandrick will be vying for your dollars as 75% of the group will drop solo albums.Slim's outting will see the most success as Mr. Scandrick's alto has easily made him the most recognizable member of 112. Not only is Slim easily recognized both visually and audibly, but he's carved a niche in the market by having some notable feature spots on the likes of Dipset's JR Writer, Cash Kola, Ebony Eyez, 8Ball & MJG and the the Young Gunz. Slim's new CD "Love's Crazy" slated for a September 08 release is chock full of excellence and is a definite disc to pick up. Tracks like "Rule Breaking", "Reverse", the Scott Storch produced "Way I Do", and lead-off single "So Fly" will cement "Love's Crazy" as a nominee for numerous awards at year's end. Expect to hear various tracks from "Love's Crazy" in nightclubs from this fall on... Quinness "Q" Parker is next in line with a September '08 release entitled "Real Talk." While I may be a bit biased toward Q (Whose been my favorite 112 singer since 1996) I do not expect he will achieve the same numbers that Slim will put up. Nonetheless, "Real Talk" will also be a solid buy. Tracks like "Never Let You Go" "Don't Give Up" "Steal My Show" and "Think About Me" will establish Q as more of a bedroom crooner. As Q has put it, "This one is for the ladies" and is evidenced by the ballads and lack of agro-club-pop. I will pick it up as it's more to my taste anyway. Last on the September bandwagon for the 112 entourage is Michael Keith. Michael Keith's self-titled debut will feature some great tracks but not achieve the numbers it deserves. Many people familiar with 112 will confuse Mike for Daron Jones as his Baritone has gone up in pitch to be able to lead an album. Also, traditional Keith is non-linear blending some interesting vocals and beats as evidenced in the country/R&B track "The Road". This outting will definitely be picked up by myself for tracks like "Ain't Feeling you" (Already purchased on Amazon) "Running out of time" a nice piano driven track of loss, and reassuring track "No More Tears". It may be the fact that I'm a devoted 112 fan that'll make me get these 3 albums on release. It may be the fact that I've already gotten many of the tracks and the quality of 112 writing and producing is cementing my purchase. It may be the these are simply going to be amazing albums that everyone must purchase. One thing's for sure: I will be buying these. I will be waiting for Daron Jones to release an actual album, and if the end of year track that 112 released last year "Work" is any indication of something forthcoming, I'll be purchasing that as well.
