5.0 out of 5 stars Bill Lear is One of a Kind, February 28, 2004

There aren't many guys around like Bill Lear. That's probably why so many different women have married him - there's just not enough of him to go around! Besides being an incredible pilot, he's one hell of a storyteller. Most of the book revolves around his flying exploits - from winning races to wowing crowds at air shows. It was rumored that he reported for Aviation Cadet Pilot Training in 1948 in his own P-38 . . . but he'll tell you the real story, which is just as good. And you won't want to miss the part about LearJet, or his "spook" work for the government. When they make a movie about Bill Lear's life (and someone is bound to), Hollywood will be hard pressed to find a leading man who can play him. He's one of a kind. And this is a terrific book -- a real page-turner that will not only impress you and make you smile and laugh, but make you just a little bit jealous of Bill!

With a foreword by the world famous test pilot Tony LeVier, and an endorsement from Art Linkletter, what else is there to say? Well there is lots more to say about this book. Reading this book is simply lots of fun. When you can't go flying, this is the next best thing. I always thought that Ernest Gann author of "Fate Is The Hunter", was the best aviation writer. But now we are lucky, Bill Lear Jr. is a better writer, and story teller. He has a very exciting and entertaining aviation tale to tell. If you love or know some one that likes to fly, get them this book. Read it and then you may understand the addiction of flying. If you are a pilot you will love this book. Once you start reading this book, I'll bet you won't want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Bold, and a Whole Lot More!, November 29, 2000

Don't even try to skip to the "good part" of this book, because it's ALL juicy! Make up your mind to devour each page, including photo captions and footnotes. If you don't, you're sure to miss some tantalizing tidbit. Having had the privilege of working with Bill Lear in the early stages of this book, I can attest to the authenticity of his devastating charm and chutzpah, which are legendary. Just read the book. Bill Lear is the kind of rascal and hero America loves and craves, and has given us a story that will inspire men and make women swoon. (Sorry, girls ... but he's already "taken" by his lovely and vivacious wife, Brenda.) Who knew that flying, spying and surviving could be so much fun? Godspeed, Bill Lear!

A friend loaned me the book. Having been in the aviation field all my life I found the book to be very entertaining. If you are merely an aviation Buff or involved, like I am, you will relate to much of the story. It's a fast read with hilarious anecdotes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Son, father, lover, student, teacher, pilot, ARTIST!, February 28, 2004

There is an art to flying well... there is an art to living life well... there is an art in doing relationships well... there is an art in growing old well... and there is an art in recording these events well... William P. Lear Jr is an artist who has not left one single square mm of the canvas of life unpainted. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever dreamed the dream of flight or taken it on head first. Thank you Bill

Anyone who is interested in aviation will find this book intriguing. This young man's Father was famous as the inventor of many electronic devices and also built the Lear Jet.His ambivalent relationship with his father played a large part in his life.He was determined to succeed on his own merits .And he did.A most unusual life in the "fast lane"

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the world's greatest pilots . . . he did it his way!, February 27, 2004

A sad night for me. I finished reading the last word of this remarkable book. I wanted it to last forever. This author has a unique ability of putting the writer's personality on paper. These writers are few and far between. To read this book is to know Bill Lear, Jr. Everyone should be so lucky. Bill has lived all his years under the shadow of a famous father who often ridiculed him and pulled against him for most of it. Contrary to what most men believe, he did it himself! He had the guts to do it his way and do it he did. He lived a life of his dreams. Most men haven't. The book allowed me to tag along with him and share his dreams and his failures through out the pages of this book.

Bill is not afraid to say - I was wrong or it was my foolish mistake. How many men can?

It is a dream come true for those interested in flying but it opens up a whole new world for those new to the skies.

It leaves not a doubt in my mind that Bill, Jr. was a superior pilot to his father yet the 'genius' genes are there. He must be considered one of the world's great pilots. It will be a surprise to those who, perhaps, have thought of him as a playboy and the son of a very rich man who gave him everything. He was not and papa did not. Ironically, perhaps this is why he achieved what he did! He followed his dreams the hard way. He was not satisfied with chopping down the tree - he dug out the roots. Everyone's life will be enriched by knowing this writer and know him you will if you read this book.
