Book Description

September 15, 2006
Fly Fishing Always describes the grace and beauty of fly fishing and introduces Hal, a local legendary fly fisher and a fascinating trip with Hal to fish for Atlantic Salmon. A wealth of fly fishing adventures is presented. These exploits include fly fishing for popular, well known species, trout, salmon, steelhead, bass, tarpon and bonefish. Thrilling fly fishing trips for peacock bass, piranhas and for other rare, little known exotic jungle fish in the Amazon and other far away places are also recalled. It is admitted that fly fishing even for other less appreciated species, such as bluegills and carp, can be challenging, exciting and rewarding. Advice is given on techniques to attempt when trout and other species are proving to be elusive and difficult to entice. Fly Fishing Always emphasizes the importance and many rewards of friendship with fellow anglers, even strangers that one meets on a remote stream. To totally experience the elegance of fly fishing, it is emphasized that one must have a total interaction with the fish and an appreciation of the beauty of the surroundings, birds, animals, wild flowers, even butterflies and dragon flies. Fly fishing takes us to beautiful places and rewards us with experiences we otherwise would never know.

About the Author

George A. Marzluf, a molecular biologist and Professor of Biochemistry at The Ohio State University, was born and raised in central Ohio, at a time when there was little knowledge and even less interest there in fly fishing. Upon graduating from college, he was introduced to fly fishing in Michigan and has been an ardent, passionate disciple of the sport ever since, for greater than forty years. He has fly fished in Alaska, Quebec, Scotland, New Zealand, Brazil, Guiana, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Venezuela and many of the lower 48 states for trout, salmon, steelhead, black bass, peacock bass, and other exotic species. Marzluf has also fly fished in the salt for bonefish, tarpon, snook, barracuda and permit in the Bahamas, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica and Venezuela. Here he describes a local legendary fly fisher, Hal, and the importance and rewards of friendship with fellow anglers. Marzluf describes a wealth of fly fishing adventures, some near, others far away, for trout and other popular species but also for rare, little known, exotic jungle fish. He also gives advice on techniques and methods to employ when fish are proving elusive and difficult to entice. Although his favorite fish are steelhead and bonefish, he explains that fly fishing for bluegills and other diminutive species should not be overlooked and can be exciting and fun. Finally he acknowledges that fly fishing takes us to beautiful places and rewards us with experiences we otherwise would never know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing- Truly a must read for fly fishers (and non fly-fishers!) everywhere, October 10, 2010
This review is from: Fly Fishing Always (Paperback)
Fly Fishing Always is THE Bible for fly fishing enthusiasts everywhere. If you haven't read this book, and you consider yourself an aficionado of the delicate art of fishing (preferably the flying variety), you're missing out.

George A. Marzluf's deft prose and Thoreau-like grasp of nature is a wonder to behold. Adventure with Marzluf along exotic locales as he describes the technique behind fly fishing in words that could only be described as poetic.

If you loved this book, I definitely recommend checking out Fly Fishing Forever as well! It's the new testament to this old testament.
