Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Now, here's a rare book! It's about fly fishing, mainly for trout, and it's actually fun to read. Most tomes of this ilk are ponderous to the point of being glacial, and Rutter's lighthearted approach makes his how-to tower over those in the entertainment department, even if some of the others surpass it in knowledge. Not that Rutter doesn't include the obligatory stuff any beginning fly fisher needs to know and understand. He does, and no would-be trout-napper should feel shortchanged. But Rutter refreshingly admits that the view most fly fishers take of their approach to their quarry--that it's some sort of holy quest--he just doesn't share. So, if you've ever considered catching a fish on a fly, don't immediately run down to your local tackle store and get a fly rod. Read this book first. Then get your tackle. Jon Kartman

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Advice, March 31, 2004

This is an outstanding book for someone wishing to get started in fly fishing. Though some of the information is a bit dated - like on waders, the author cuts through all the elitist garbage and nonsense to help someone starting out with what's important, a decent rod and some help casting a fly. I've flyfished for almost 20 years and would highly recommend this book to any beginner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book is fair at best, September 17, 1998

This review is from: Fly Fishing for the Compleat Idiot: A No-Nonsense Guide to Fly Casting (Paperback)
While I felt that there was some humor in this book, it was nothing to wright home about. There was some good tips that all seemed to be rehashed from Rutters other book " fly fishing made easy". of the two books on fly fishing that Rutter has Written was far more infomative as a guid to learning to fly fish. One book from him would have been plenty.
