About the Author

Pat Ford’s passion for photography began in the early 1960s while he was a student at the University of Notre Dame. After attending Columbia Law School and while serving in the Navy JAG Corps, Ford was stationed in Pensacola and then Key West, where he turned his love of fly fishing to salt water. An active member of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), he has held sixteen fly rod world records. Ford wrote his first article for Salt Water Sportsman magazine in 1969 and has been contributing to most major fishing magazines ever since. The author of The Best Fly Fishing Trips Money Can Buy and Fly-Fishing Daydreams, he is a regular contributor to IGFA’s Annual Yearbook and Fly Fishing in Salt Water magazine. He lives in Miami, Florida.

Lefty Kreh's name is synonymous with world-class fly fishing. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the American Sportfishing Association's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1991, Lefty was honored by the U.S. Postal Service with a postage stamp bearing the image of his famous "Deceiver" fly. He lives in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Most so-called table-top books are eye candy or decor and nothing else.
Pat Ford's books, The Best Fly Fishing Trips Money Can Buy and his latest, Fly Fishing Daydreams are both classics and here's why. Pat's been supplying covers for just about every fishing magazine in print for decades and his stories and images have appeared in some of the best print magazines as well as the top-rated online fly fishing magazine Fly Life Magazine.com. Pat's insight into the sport of fly angling comes from the fact that he's also an extraordinary angler with several world records to his credit and he's also an accomplished fly tyer with a few inventions of his own that catch fish. Pat knows fly fishing.

The uniqueness of Fly Fishing Daydreams is not just the incredible images that spark envy and a sensual thrill in any sport fisherman's mind, but the angling experiences he surrenders to a reader are throughbred stories. Pat, through his own words and those other world class anglers' like Jim Teeny, Steve Kantner, Sarah Gardener and Pat Ehlers round out the book's pleasurable read.

I think without knowing it, Pat produced a you-are-there view of each destination. Readers get the look and feel of every location from sun-up to lights out and every angling minute in between.

In the real estate business it's location, location, location and so it is with Pat's coverages of lodges and destinations that span the globe from The Everglades with Capt. Rick Murphy to Russia, Patagonia to the Seychelles, Wisconsin to Cairns and San Diego to Montauk with Capt. Andrew Derr and more, lots more.

Pat added a whole chapter on how to shoot great pictures with a digital camera. It reads like a beautiful golf swing - easy and uncomplicated.

Some chapters are short and in portions of the book the anglers are not even fly fishing. It seems like it's more of log of Ford's adventures, even if they weren't particularly successful. Other chapters are pretty good. It just seems inconsistent to me.

Fly-Fishing Daydreams is fantastic and should be a must read for any international traveling fisherman, or any fisherman for that matter. Pat is certainly the premier fishing photographer of our time; but he is also an excellent fisherman. This combination, along with his "no B.S." way of doing things provides the reader with accurate information of these magical worldwide fishing destinations.

Pat Ford has taken the art photographing saltwater fishing to a whole different level. His ability to be in the right place at the right time is an art in itself. Not to mention the creatures and scenic views he captures along the way. A book that can stand the test of time, to be enjoyed for years to come...
