Book Description

January 1, 2008
This book is the culmination of 35 years of experience, information, insights, observations, and the wonders of fly-fishing for trout in the Garden State.

Written with the passion of a life-long fly-fisherman, you will gain valuable knowledge on becoming a better angler and naturalist no matter where you fish for trout. Coupled with the lyrical narrative are dozens of photographs taken by a variety of New Jersey anglers who share the author's love of fly-fishing for trout. Matt covers every aspect of fly-fishing for trout in New Jersey with a style and clarity to suit every level of ability. You will learn about three species of trout and their behavior, the insects they eat, and the artificial flies that imitate those insects.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price, March 18, 2011
This review is from: Fly Fishing New Jersey Trout Streams (Paperback)
This is one of the least satisfying books I've read. While it gives basic insight for a newcomer to NJ, it lacks far too much. The maps are poor. Access information is missing. Nothing on local fly shops. It's a skinny little book that is worth half the price. Simple internet searches give more information.

I expect more value for my dollar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed, August 20, 2010
This review is from: Fly Fishing New Jersey Trout Streams (Paperback)
I was very disapointed with this book. The title "Fly Fishing New Jersey Trout Streams," lead me to belive that I would get a fairly comprensive review on most of New Jersey's trout streams. The book covers about 10 streams and the information on the streams fills less than half of the book. The streams covered were covered in too earlier books on New Jersey trout streams. New Jersey has dozens of quality trout waters which were admited. The author is an excellent fly tyer but more emphasis was placed on his flies (many named after the author) than the streams. The editor missed spelling errors and captions on photos. Pequest was spelled wrong on the caption and there is a stream flowing through beautiful green vegatition with an angler wearing a short sleve shirt and the caption infoms the reader that this is a winter sceen.

I hope the author will expand the number of streams in the reprint.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, July 20, 2009
This review is from: Fly Fishing New Jersey Trout Streams (Paperback)
Way too much of this book was taken up with general fishing information. I know what a trout looks like, I didn't need a 2 page description of each type of trout. There are already a lot of much more informative books on entomology, fly fishing, or fly tying. The maps are pretty good hence the three stars but i hovered over two. I expected much more about Jersey than I got.
