From the Back Cover

Here is a clear understanding of the complex and fascinating fifteen miles of emerald clear, big water coursing below the huge sandstone cliffs that start the Grand Canyon. Every fly angler has heard about it: a mind-boggling place that can offer forty-trout days. Master guide and longtime Marble Canyon resident Dave Foster gives tips for fly and spin fishing, and also helps us marvel at the land. He reveals points of history, boating and geologic landmarks and where to look for wildlife.
Dave also describes the settlement of Lee's Ferry and the canyon lands of northern Arizona. All this with photos, illustrations and maps.
This book is a huge contribution to fly fishing and a step forward in the ongoing chronicle of the fascinating river, its storage and the crossing that has served as a "historical funnel" of western migration.

About the Author

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Much History, Not Enough Good Fishing Info, February 18, 2005
This review is from: Fly Fishing Lees Ferry: The Complete Guide to Fishing and Boating the Colorado River Below Glen Canyon Dam (Paperback)
I don't like to be negative but I am disappointed in the book. The title says its a guide to "Fly Fishing Lees Ferry". I am sorry, but the fishing details peculiar to Lees Ferry are not what they could be. It is more a history book than anything else.

Thats all well and good. No problem with history books. But I thought I was buying a book on fishing, not history.

And not just a general book on fishing, but a book on Lees Ferry fishing. Why is it that any book on fly fishing has to include a Knots section and a Casting section? If I want a book on Introduction To Fly Fishing, that is what I will buy. But I wanted Lees Ferry info, not knot and casting info. Every time I see knots and casting in a book that is suppossed to be specific to an area, the intent of the author is clear.... fill up space in the book with easy unrelated stuff since he doesn't have enough info on the real topic to make a full book. Come on, don't you think people that want specific info on Lees Ferry know how to cast and tie knots? Don't you think these same people want your insight on the fishing aspects of the river rather than the historical points of the river.

Retitle the book " History of Lees Ferry With Some Fishing Info Thrown In"

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, pretty pictures but..., September 14, 2004
This review is from: Fly Fishing Lees Ferry: The Complete Guide to Fishing and Boating the Colorado River Below Glen Canyon Dam (Paperback)
Dave, if you lived there for so long, you could have at least made the publisher get the name right! It is Lees Ferry, no apostrophe. And it is some of the best fly fishing on the face of the planet as far as I'm concerned. Marble Canyon & the Vermillion Cliffs at dusk is absolutely magical. Good book on a great place and a wonderful sport!

Oh, and I think that Dave will agree that guide I use, Bill McBurney, is another top notch guide for the area. Either one you go with, Dave or Bill, you are going to have a great time fishing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book and Guide!, January 21, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am so pleased with this Book and river guide, I have been planning a trip to the Glen Canyon for over a year and had started doing my own research of the river looking at satellite maps, youtube.com, etc. Then I discovered this guidebook and it is a real "God send," saving me all kinds of time and preparation. I may even laminate some of the pages - especially the detailed river maps as they will be a great help on the river! Thank you Dave Foster (author) for you devotion and passion seen in your work! And thank you illustrator Pete Chadwell for your wonderful and detailed work as well! Blessings to all!
