Editorial Reviews

Review

This short, soft-cover book provides a wealth of tips and trips for the beginner to the advanced fly-fisher.

Streit's offers quick hits of information on the top 20 fly fishing waters in our state. These profiles offer the best time of year to fish, what you're likely to hook, the gear you'll need to be successful and even the popular patterns to attract a popular trout. Each section also includes a very simplistic map of the area which gives the most basic information on how to get you there.

This book is part of a series of volumes of No Nonsense Guides to the West - Colorado, Northern California, Idaho and others. It is published by David Communications out of Oregon. Streit's brother, Jackson, is the author of the Colorado guide.

I recently tried one of the recommended trips, and found that Streit provided enough information to get me there, and to get me started, but he left me wondering why he failed to mention that the bank of the stream I chose was completely locked in with vegetation. This is important information for me to have, as a novice fly caster.

If anything, Streit's guide left me wanting more. The one short page he uses to describe each venue is not enough for a beginner like me. I did, however, enjoy the book's introduction in which Streit tells why he thinks New Mexico's fly fishing is so fantastic.

Although this book is not the end-all bible of fly fishing in our wonderful state, it is a great place to get you started with the king of fly fishing - information. -- Paul Bearce, Albuquerque Journal 09/10/96 --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
