About the Author

Floyd Peede spent 30 years as an officer in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1972 after having flown combat in three wars. In World War II he flew 35 missions in a B-17 mostly over Germany. On his 29th mission while over Berlin the plane caught fire and to avoid becoming a POW he flew the damaged plane Eastward. The fire was extinguished but due to high winds they had to keep on an easterly heading and let down over Poland. With about a 200 ft ceiling they let down and found a Russian forward landing base where they landed and spent a little over a week with the Russian pilots. Over a period of a month they flew back to England to finish their 35 missions before the war ended. In Strategic Air Command he flew B-50.s and B-47's in the Cold War and in the Vietnam War he flew A-26's. This flying was mostly over Laos and covered the Ho Chi Minh trail where he killed many trucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book!, October 22, 2011
This review is from: Fly High/Fly Low (Paperback)
Col. Peede's book is as captivating as his experiences were in real life. It so happens that my father flew with Col. Peede during the Vietnam conflict, and he often spoke highly of Col. Peede as a man, an officer, and a pilot. In fact, my father often told me that Col. Peede took care of him in Southeast Asia.

Anyone who would like to read a real-life adventure story would do well to read Col. Peede's book. He's every bit the man his book makes him out to be. He's a real life American hero.
