Mixed Bag,
By
This review is from: Fly Me Away (Audio CD)
This is the European release which combines much of the UK material except for C2 remix 2 and Fields Remix of 'Time Out' (which I really really wanted to have). The single version of the song has some background additions and the vocals seem to be brought forward. It's a happy bouncy track and I thought that it was a good choice for a single. Unfortunately, the C2 remixes suck the life out of the song. They're not bad. They're just very minimalistic - set a beat and fade in an element one at a time. The emotional spirit of the song is lost. The Ladytron remix is a step in the right direction. It's a good remix but this is a fun song - FUN - why do the remixes sound so serious? Then things take a 180 degree turn. As soon as you hear the opening to Bombay remix of 'Satin Chic' you know you in for a treat. They made the one oddball track on the album even odder! It's fantastic! (Uh, C2 are you paying attention here?) Then Mum wips up a spacey guitar remix of 'You Never Know' leaving me wanting more. Two videos are also included: a behind-the-scenes tour with the making of the 'Ride the White Horse' video which is quite cool, and the promotional video for 'Ride the White Horse' which is absolutely hilarious and a must-have! (The promotional video for 'Fly Me Away' isn't included here because it wasn't completed.) Overall, a mixed bag which is disappointing.
