Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
In her first book, TangoDiva.com founder Williamson uses 10 criteria-among them safety, transportation and friendliness-to determine a list of destinations for adventurous women, then provides the skinny on each. But before delving into her exceedingly thorough chick-trip dispatches, Williamson provides an incisive quiz to help readers determine the best trip for them. Dozens of global hot spots are profiled here, with an especially extensive list of European locations. Rating each of her destinations on four important variables-cultural opportunities, activity level, weather and social interaction-Williamson gives readers a feel for each city; true to her insider's vision, she even dishes out the home phone numbers of American ex-pats willing to offer a home-cooked meal (for a small fee). Other off-the-beaten-track suggestions include trying the Moroccan baths in Paris, and tracking down a bar in Beijing so hip it attracts British DJs-"From Britain!" Even though this easy-to-breeze-through guide offers information on locales as far-flung as Machu Picchu and Tokyo, a number of fun stateside escapes ensures that even "girls" on a limited budget will be ready to lone-wolf it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Basic Information, April 19, 2007
By oceangirl1 "oceangirl" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
The book provides an extremely general overview of 50 destinations. Omitted, (I'm guessing for security reasons ) is all of Africa, India, the truly interesting islands of Polynesia (mentions Waikiki) the entire Caribbean, Australia west of Sydney and Mexico. Standard European capitol cities get the most ink. There is nothing here that could not be found in the first pages of a Let's Go. I was really hoping for a unique insight found nowhere else. It does list a festival or two and several activities for the given city. No hard specifics like maps, embassy addresses, specific lodging, addresses of restaurants esp open to single diners or specific city areas not to venture into after dark. Lists destinations well along the beaten path. If you are a first time traveller tho, this might be a good armchair read.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's OK but this is not a Travel Book, February 8, 2008
By Tara K. Schumacher (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am an experiences solo women traveller looking for some new places to visit. I was more concerned with safe places for women to travel alone without getting hassled. This woman seemed more concerned about where to party and what kind of shoes we should be wearing. Honestly I am 33 year old traveler and I know to dress and I rather learn more about what are safe areas to travel to, where to stay safely and honestly more about what to see in do. I think the only thing I need from this book is the first page of the locations. The content in the book gave me no help of what do and how to experience the city. I don't think flirting and trying to seduce men and where to shop is experiencing a city. This book was just not a travel book it was a travel story. Its definitely not Rick Steves or Lonely Planet. I was disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars books, January 28, 2008
By single gal (L A CALIFORNIA USA) - See all my reviews
Thought this book would inform me of places that were safe and easy for a single to visit. NOT! It lists cities and just a few details - not very good with that either. Example: be sure to bring your thong - men here don't like pantie lines.
