Very Basic Information,

The book provides an extremely general overview of 50 destinations. Omitted, (I'm guessing for security reasons ) is all of Africa, India, the truly interesting islands of Polynesia (mentions Waikiki) the entire Caribbean, Australia west of Sydney and Mexico. Standard European capitol cities get the most ink. There is nothing here that could not be found in the first pages of a Let's Go. I was really hoping for a unique insight found nowhere else. It does list a festival or two and several activities for the given city. No hard specifics like maps, embassy addresses, specific lodging, addresses of restaurants esp open to single diners or specific city areas not to venture into after dark. Lists destinations well along the beaten path. If you are a first time traveller tho, this might be a good armchair read.

I am an experiences solo women traveller looking for some new places to visit. I was more concerned with safe places for women to travel alone without getting hassled. This woman seemed more concerned about where to party and what kind of shoes we should be wearing. Honestly I am 33 year old traveler and I know to dress and I rather learn more about what are safe areas to travel to, where to stay safely and honestly more about what to see in do. I think the only thing I need from this book is the first page of the locations. The content in the book gave me no help of what do and how to experience the city. I don't think flirting and trying to seduce men and where to shop is experiencing a city. This book was just not a travel book it was a travel story. Its definitely not Rick Steves or Lonely Planet. I was disappointed.

Thought this book would inform me of places that were safe and easy for a single to visit. NOT! It lists cities and just a few details - not very good with that either. Example: be sure to bring your thong - men here don't like pantie lines.

I bought this book for information on how to save money and feel comfortable when traveling alone. Although this book does cover the issue of safety, it was heavily weighted with advice on how to meet people when traveling single. For my purposes, it had limited value.

This is an entertaining easy to read guide based on guidelines such as safety, transportation, cultural activities, etc. Locations on each continent are covered. I just wish it had been 100 best locations - I could have added a few.

I was very excited about this book, and on the surface it seems to be a great idea. I thought I got lots of great ideas for part of my solo trip to Barcelona. However, upon closer inspection, several of the 'must do activities' listed are NOT actually intended for the solo traveler--in fact, they are quite the opposite. Two of the ten 'must dos' are done by a 'company' that specializes in personalized tours, for which there is a premium charge for booking for 'only two' people--nevermind one. And who wants to go on a private solo tour? That would be quite uncomfortable, and I feel most solo travelers would agree with me on that (after all, part of the fun of traveling on your own is meeting new people--you can't do that on a tour for one!)
In my solo traveling mind, I'd like to find tips for group tours that cater to lone travelers, and/or things to do and places to see that are solo friendly. I'd also appreciate fewer references to bars and clubs, because really, as a solo female traveler, I'd be pretty uncomfortable waking into a club all alone--but this is just a personal preference. The reason I even gave this book three stars is because it is organized very well, and I could see using it for figuring out where to go--LONG before you go there. You'd need many more resources after figuring this out, but it does give a good overview. The lack of website information is unfortunate as well--basically, this is a really good book for people who like to read a book and then spend hours researching online.

Good Idea Generator for solo travellers,

I am always looking for ideas for new destinations and especially ones that will be comfortable for me, as I travel frequently in Asia and the Middle East. This is not a guidebook for these locations and I don't think it was intended to be. It provides some ideas that will suit you based on a quiz at the beginning of the book. I actually hate these kinds of quizzes and do not like to be pigeon holed as one type or another. But the following info on selected locations did provide good information on why to go and key things not to miss.
I think I may be ten year too old for the target audience as I am less interested in the local bar scene but there was still plenty that I found helpful and have put a couple new destinations on my list as a result - which is what I wanted. It even provided some ideas for places I go frequently but never knew some of thier more interesting parts of points of interest. I would not use this to find hotel recommendations once you pick a spot you will need additional materials and do searches to complete your itinerary. But this is a good dream book and jumping off point. Safe and happy travels
