Format: Audio CD
2008's Fly to the Sun is the second album from Spanish melodic metal band Sandalinas. Led by guitarist extraordinaire Jordi Sandalinas, the band has a sound that's somewhere between melodic rock and power metal.

This time around, Sandalinas enlisted the services of At Vance vocalist Rick Altzi to replace Firewind's Apollo Papathanasio, who provided vocals on the debut Living on the Edge). Altzi has a strong midrange vocal style that's a good fit for this kind of music. The musicianship is rock solid as well, particularly the guitar work. Sandalinas has plenty of technical ability, but is smart enough to keep this from becoming just another shred fest. The songs on Fly to the Sun have great melodies, pack a punch and stick with you long after the album ends.

Veteran producer Andy LaRocque oversaw the project and even provided a guitar solo on "The Healer Talks." Other guests include Chris Caffery (guitar solo on "Double Cross" and "Shadows in the Rain") and Derek Sherinian (keyboards on "Seasons in the Sand").

Sandalinas should appeal to just about any fan of melodic rock and metal. Fans of bands like Pretty Maids, Circle II Circle, Masterplan, House of Lords and At Vance in particular should make it a point to check out Fly to the Sun.
