4.0 out of 5 stars A Good, But Forgotten, AC/DC Album
FLICK OF THE SWITCH failed to sell the way BACK IN BLACK or FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK did, and AC/DC quickly became yesterday's news. FOTS was a great album, and people are still discovering that today, but what about the album after that? FLY ON THE WALL may just be AC/DC's heaviest album (thanks to the most distorted guitar tones Angus & Malcolm ever used), and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another underated effort!
Another underarted 80's effort by AC/DC. As you all know, no songs on this album ever make it to radio play or in there live set all that often, or not at all. From the title track to "send for the man" this album still has plenty of balls, basic, simple and straight to the point. Apart from the vocals being drowned out by the music (Brian Johnson is hard to...

FLICK OF THE SWITCH failed to sell the way BACK IN BLACK or FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK did, and AC/DC quickly became yesterday's news. FOTS was a great album, and people are still discovering that today, but what about the album after that? FLY ON THE WALL may just be AC/DC's heaviest album (thanks to the most distorted guitar tones Angus & Malcolm ever used), and features two of their best songs ever in "Sink The Pink," and "Shake Your Foundations." But FOTW also features several other great songs; "Playing With Girls," "First Blood," and "Hell Or High Water." Some of the other songs, however, DO approach filler status, and the album is left with an uneven feel. If FOTW had two or three more killer songs it would rank up there as one of their best albums. As it is FOTW stands as a solid AC/DC album, and is better than most of the albums that followed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forget the Production, The Music Still Rocks!, October 30, 2002
By
A.J. Taylor (Sparta, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fly on the Wall (Audio CD)
By 1985, things were going downhill for AC/DC. Their popularity, along with their brand of hard rock, was slipping, replaced by legions of generic hair-metal acts. Their supply of original ideas was drying up, making all their albums sound roughly the same. Brian Johnson's voice was going, and Phil Rudd was gone.
In the face of all these obstacles, AC/DC carried on in a "business as usual" fashion and created one of the few(and better) true rock albums of the era. Angus and Malcolm turn out impressive guitar work as usual and the song quality is pretty much constantly good, with only "Danger" and "First Blood" being truly weak songs. Simon Wright's drumming is acceptable, but nowhere near the quality of Phil Rudd's. Brian's voice is beginning to go, but still remains relatively strong. Also against this album is the absolutely horrid production. With an actual producer this album may have turned out alot better than it did.
Overall this is certainly not the first AC/DC album anyone should get. Indeed, this ranks towards the lower end of their catologue, but even an average AC/DC album is about 75% of other rock music out there...pick this one up to round out your collection.

From the title track to "send for the man" this album still has plenty of balls, basic, simple and straight to the point. Apart from the vocals being drowned out by the music (Brian Johnson is hard to understand anyway, but even more so in this instance), this ia s ripper of an album.

5.0 out of 5 stars SINK THE PINK..........THEN BUY THIS ALBUM, December 13, 2004
This review is from: Fly on the Wall (Audio CD)
FLY ON THE WALL.....so underrated. This album is AC/DC still rocking right through the 80's hair metal fiasco and it's awesome. It's standout tracks are FLY ON THE WALL, SINK THE PINK, SHAKE YOUR FOUNDATIONS, AND DANGER. Great album from a great band.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT CLASSIC AC/DC, February 7, 2002

FLY ON THE WALL is not all bad, but not one of their best. The best songs are FLY ON THE WALL, the very good SHAKE YOUR FOUNDATIONS, DANGER & SINK THE PINK. The rest is rather ordinary including the awful STAND UP, FIRST BLOOD & SEND FOR THE MAN.
A fair album, but not the classic AC/DC everyone expects.

Fly On the Wall is a superb CD.Heavy as hell and twice as hot! When you are unhinged this is the AC/DC CD to put you into the Twilight Zone. Shake your Foundations sums it up .If Mike Tyson was an album it would be this one !

Radio won't play any of these old school gems. I can't understand why. A quality album. I love Danger, Sink the Pink and Shake Your Foundations.

2.0 out of 5 stars No good for AC/DC standards, December 7, 2001
This review is from: Fly on the Wall (Audio CD)
After 1981's FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK, AC/DC began to run out of ideas at an alarming rate. They changed producer Mutt Lange, they fired Phil Rudd, every step was made to make thing better. But nothing happened. Brian Johnson's voice soon got worse compared to BACK IN BLACK standards, and new drummer Simon Wright could not fill the shoes of Phil Rudd. FLY ON THE WALL is one of the worst (if there is a bad AC/DC album!!) AC/DC albums ever, one that has not produced a standard for their live set nor got deep into fans' memories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brian Johnson isn't all that bad, June 11, 2004
This review is from: Fly on the Wall (Audio CD)
First of all im writing this review to defend Brain johnson, im sick of people critizing him and his voice. He is not bad at all, when you listen to him sing keep in mind that he was about 40 when he recorded this, so compared to Bon he is old. And music wise you cant compare them, the ac/dc sound was changed after Bon died, not just the vocals. Also try to imagine Ac/dc with some one besides bon or brian, its hard isn't it, the only person i can imagine is Dan McCafferty of Nazareth. Don't get me wrong im a huge fan of bon and like him more then brian, i even did my 8th grade english project on Bon, it was about 6 pages long. Anyway this album is basic solid catchy 80's ac/dc

5.0 out of 5 stars wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 3, 2003
This review is from: Fly on the Wall (Audio CD)
this is is one of my favorite ac/dc cds.it has a certain type of rawness to it.the best songs are fly on the wall, stand up,and send the man.i think this cd is way to underated it has been called every bad name out there bottom of the barrel, the worst album by the boys yet,and the one i cant understand is that brian johnsons voice is gone,ha it is as stong as it was with back in black.i love it.i also think flick of the switch, blow up your video, and for those about to rock are very cool and underated.
