What was the son of a ladieswear salesman doing flying a battered old floatplane with a load of drunken passengers and dead fish? He was discovering the ideal situation for a city-slicker pilot to make a fool of himself. Fly Yellow Side Up is the hilarious story of a suburban flying instructor who moves north seeking the freedom and glory of flying floatplanes. Follow Wallace as he takes a bush pilot job with no floatplane experience and stumbles his way into the fascinating world of wilderness flying.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"He'd never been in a floatplane so naturally he applied for a bush flying job. But what would he do if he got it? Read the book and find out." -- Plane & Pilot Magazine

"Wallace has a gift of storytelling and an enviable sense of whimsy. Fly Yellow Side Up is a fun read for everyone." -- Robert Howard, Hamilton Spectator

5.0 out of 5 stars Fly Yellow Side Up stories for the heart!, November 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fly Yellow Side Up (Paperback)
This author is just wonderful. Descriptive stories, you feel like you are there. If you're a pilot it is a must read. My father was a pilot for many years and he was gifted with this book. When he was dying of cancer I was able to visit him and he wanted me to read to him from this book. That was our last visit together and I will always have an attachment to the wonderful short stories this book provided.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pilots and wanna be pilots will love this little book, June 3, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Fly Yellow Side Up (Paperback)
A young flight instructor and his new wife move to a resort in Ontario for a tourist season. He flys floatplanes, and the book is a series of short chapters describing the experience. The gruff owner, worried flight line manager, old-salt pilots, tourists, students and old time residents all provide great fun for the author and you the reader.
