This is a very durable and dependable toy. It takes a little pracrice but patience = fun. The key to long flights, outdoors, with no wind, is to not try to over control it. I basically start with it in my hand give it full throttle and let it go.. do not stear left or right until you have some altitude. 6-8 feet at least. then the fun begins with very small left or right clicks on remote. I play lots of video games and consider myself to have a higher than normal hand eye cordination level than most, but frankly this thing flys itself but you are in control. I would not reccomend this for indoors unless you have a gymnasium handy. Awesome toy, great Price, very durable, and easy on batteries, still using original set. Get it, you wont regret it for a second.

"Recommended for indoors." That might work if you have a gym at your disposal, but short of that, forget it. That leaves outdoors.

The controls are a left/right joystick and a left/right trim, along with a throttle. Notably, there is no elevator. Early on, our flyer would climb-stall-dive-repeat. After several attempts at flight, there wasn't enough power to reach a stall, and more power just made for a power-dive into the ground. This with an adult at the controls who has a fair understanding of powered flight.

Don't know if our flyer is just terminally out of balance, or if the usual "well you're not supposed to fly it outdoors" response will come into play, but I really couldn't recommend this toy for reliable play.

WARNING!!!

This thing is styrofoam. The plug in the body of the dragonfly that you have to plug the charger into is held in place by...styrofoam. That plug will fail.

We used this for less than a few hours and when we plugged the charger into the body of the dragonfly for probably the 3rd time, the plug slipped up into the body of the dragonfly and has made it impossible to charge. We didn't shove it up into the body, or anything else-just tried to plug the charger into it normally.

Contacted the company. They stated this constituted misuse of this item, please go to our store and buy another body. After replying again asking how on earth it contituted misuse, they said "per our company policy we don't cover the plug being pushed up into the body". Um, it wasn't "pushed" up into the body, it slipped up into the body.

Horrible horrible horrible customer service and product. If I could rate durability of this toy in negative numbers I certainly would.

What a great toy: It is quite simply LOADS of fun! Loads I tell ya! I gave this toy as xmas gifts to 3 kids of varying ages (14, 17, 19... and a 4th one I bought for myself, a kid of 40). The kids loved their Dragonflies. And everyone else loved them too. Everyone wanted a turn to fly the remote control insect. Definitely the smash hit of all the xmas gifts given that day. They were so enjoyable I went and bought one for myself. I'm nearly 40 years old, still play video games, and will always be a kid at heart. I've been having a BLAST flying this thing around my neighborhood. Everyone who sees it is keenly intrigued and impressed at how this thing flies by flapping it's wings. It's just so cool.

Only caveat I have noticed is that it can take a bit of practice before one gets the hang of flying this thing. It's not so easy that just anyone can fly it on their first try. Most people are able to fly it pretty well after 2 - 6 training flights. Some may take longer. It took me two days before I could get it to stay in the air. But I'm glad I didn't give up because it's just so much darn fun once you get the hang of it! In my opinion it should be for ages 12 and up. I think 8 is kinda young for this toy and 7 or under I seriously doubt they possess the needed skills to master this machine.

If you have any doubt about this item I would encourage you to seek out any of the remote control hobbyists discussion forums on the net and see what they have been saying about this toy. (Look for subjects about "ornithopters" which are flying machines powered by flapping wings). These are people that live for flying RC airplanes, helicopters, ornithopters, and other machines. They know their stuff and overall they seem to be thoroughly impressed with this inexpensive little "toy".
