4.0 out of 5 stars Made for BMX not mountain bike bars, November 22, 2010

This review is from: Flybikes Rubber Bar End Plugs (Misc.)
These seem like they would be good for what they are designed for: the flybikes.com website describes them as "The first ever push in BMX bar ends". I ordered them hoping to use them with my aluminum mountain bike handlebars, and found they are made for a wider inner diameter, so they wouldn't fit into my bars at all. I wish the description on the amazon site made it clear that these seem to be BMX size specific. I wish they did fit because the material is just perfect for my use: it's more plastic than rubber, very tough, but soft enough that they probably wouldn't scratch anything as I lean the bike against walls and cabinets. I will try to modify them to fit into my bar ends somehow.

I should also note that the color of the "white" ones I ordered are more of a light grey, just a little lighter than taupe, not nearly as white as the picture on the website would indicate. I prefer it to bright white as it doesn't stand out as much.

Update: I was able to modify them to fit securely into mountain bike handlebars, by using kitchen scissors to cut out few millimeters of material, perpendicular to the ridges. I made two such cuts in each, separating the part that goes inside the bars into two halves that then get pressed against each other. Not elegant, and one bar end still sticks out a bit, but it meets my needs.
