A Fine Movie Soundtrack,
By Ty Falco (Fort Wayne, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flyboys (Audio CD)
The Flyboys movie is truly enhanced by this excellent movie soundtrack by Trevor Rabin. The soundtrack is easily one of the best I have heard. The music fits the movie and takes you through the various themes and moods. I recommend this soundtrack to anyone who has seen the movie and to everyone who enjoys instrumental movie soundtracks.

Rabin is on a roll!,
This review is from: Flyboys (Audio CD)
Another excellent score album by Rabin! It contains a wonderful main theme lead by the flute, typical militaristic percussion for action sequences, and a sweet little romance theme. The orchestra and choir really bring this score to life.
Like THE GREAT RAID, this score is dramatic and patriotic. The songs are out of order and some track titles spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it. Still, Varese gave the album a good release allowing Rabin to expose his maturing talents to the world! This album is definitely one to own!

A little bit of "Glory"?,
By Movie Buff "Movie Buff" (Arizona) - See all my reviews

I enjoyed the music and will be the first to acknowledge Mr. Rabin is a gifted composer, but I wonder if anyone else noticed the similarities to James Horner's 1989 music for the movie Glory? (a lonely Christmas). In any event, I enjoyed the movie and the music and recommend both.

Music that really fits....,

The Trevor Rabin soundtrack to Flyboys is much like the film itself...very under rated. The music perfectly captures WWI France, it's both exciting and melodic...with a hauntingly beautiful Flute playing throughout.
All the tracks are very good and do tell a story. They are better if you are familiar with the film yet can also stand, quite admirably, on their own. A very nice edition to my soundtrack library...I predict very good things from Mr. Rabin in the future...his soundtrack here is truly memorable.

Though a movie buff, I am very particular about soundtracks. Some truly capture the theme and storyline, and help set the mood of the scenes. Other soundtracks baffle me and I wonder who selected the music and wonder where their thoughts were at the time of composition. Flyboys is one of those soundtracks that not only sets the mood of the scenes and enhances the film, it stays with you. When I hear it, it transports me back to a film and storyline that I truly enjoyed.

blow me over with a feather,
By David Chandler-Gick "DJ" (Indiana) - See all my reviews

I TiVo'd Flyboys one night on nothing more than sheer boredom. WWI, and period pieces in general, has never really been my cup of tea. In fact, there was nothing at all that really appealed to me about this movie. I'm not a fan of Franco, and Jean Reno isn't a go-to actor. I cannot stress how much I should never have seen this film.
That's important because I ended up enjoying it very much. I found myself asking "why am I enjoying this film? Why am I sitting up during the aerial dogfights? Why am I stressing about this character, or that one?" Then it hit me: I was loving the score. The music throughout sucked me in and made me part of the story. That's not to say that the acting and cinematography were shoddy. Both were solid, and I'd even have to commend the CG artists in making realistic CG. (Anyone who has seen the new Indy 4 can attest to what bad CG can do to ruin a movie.) But all that was not EXCEPTIONAL. While I LIKED the movie, I LOVE the music.

Score better than the movie,

The movie was not horrible, but this amazing score exceeds the quality of the film. Rabin captures both the majesty, fear and sadness of war. I listen to this score often because it's both poignant and uplifting. There is so much variety in this score too, something that Rabin does not always do. (National Treasure? While I love the score, it seems a bit one-note to me). The score to Flyboys is a greater accomplishment for him. Great job, Trevor! I only take off 1 star due to the track order of the CD. The last few tracks don't close out the CD well. Solution? I rearrange the tracks on my iPod!
