5.0 out of 5 stars Women who are over the top, July 17, 2009
This review is from: Flying Above the Glass Ceiling (Paperback)
I am an aviation enthusiast, have been all my life. Medical reasons preclude me from a private pilots license but I have taken lessons and jump at any chance to fly with anyone who'll let me sit in the right seat next to them. Anything to do with flying, I'll read.
I came across this book while searching for books on flying and the thought of reading about women who had the ability and the gumption to buck the male dominated world of aviation, intrigued me. I know what hurdles men have to overcome just to get into the cockpit of a "heavy" and they're not discriminated against because of gender. It was interesting to see how they relentlessly overcame the barriers put in front of them. The book has several chapters devoted to each women pilot. Everybody's story is different but everybody basically had many of the same barriers to overcome; employers, spouses, family, as well as the public. If you're interested in flying and the type of people who command the aircraft you ride in as well as what drives them to do do what they do, I highly recommend reading this book.
