Book Description

July 28, 2006
Chef David Paul Larousse has recorded his many experiences as chef on a series of international private yachts, and compiled a collection of short tales and essays that record his encounters and observations. These 'day in the life' tales of his galley production, as well as philosophical musings, are written in an engaging manner, with both a sense of humor and an astute insight into human nature. This is cookbook literature at its best - the sharp insights, commentaries, and experiences of a chef professional, written with clarity and command - and accompanied by 25 sensational recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Memoir..., September 10, 2006

This review is from: The Flying Apple Pie and Other Tales of Life and Gastronomy (Paperback)
David Paul Larousse has entertained us with his first-hand account of service life in the yachting world. Tales are told as they unfold on and around the high seas from the Carribean to the coastal ports of France and Spain. These accounts give the reader a taste of the day in and day out experiences of both crew and guest upon a yacht for hire. With the added bonus of Mr. Larousse's recipes, readers can 'try out' the recipes which give the stories life. The first one I am going to attempt is his recipe for All-Purpose Industrial-Strength "Sugo Scappato" Tomato Sauce. Culinary students might want to give this one a read before considering employment on a ship or yacht.
