5.0 out of 5 stars As a fearful flyer the visuals was just what I needed.

2.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
This video really didn't help ally my fear of flying. Although it attempts to cover a broad range of topics, the tape is only 28 minutes long. Subsequently, topics are introduced and dispensed without covering most of the questions we fearful fliers have. Overall, the tape seems like an airline propaganda video you'd show to children who have never flown before...

As a fearful flyer I had read all the books on how to cope with being on an airplane, but when I walked through that cabin door, I forgot all I had read. My heart rate rose and hands began sweating. I recieved this video as a gift from my parents, who are also fearful flyers. After watching it 2 times, once when I recieved it and once before my next flight, on the airplane I actually felt O.K. I think it was the ability to watch what was going on during a flight in the comfort of my living room. Something I could never do on an actual flight because of my nervousness. The video help me understand what was happening and more importantly what was going to happen. I can almost say I enjoy flying (not quite), but it is much eaiser. It must have been the visuals. Great tape

5.0 out of 5 stars This Video is Fantastic if you use it Properly!, July 2, 2002
This review is from: Flying With Confidence Overcome your Fear of Flying [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I had an EXTREME flear of flying -- had not flown in ten years. This video helped me fly again! You must watch this video many times. Psychologists call this rehersal...the goal is to watch so many times that you are desensitized to your fear. Even if you don't think it is working, keep watching...you will be surprised that gradually you will feel much, much better about flying. The reviewers who complained about this video probably did not watch it over and over -- they expected an instant cure. (There are no instant cures.) Watch the video at least three times a week. Also try the full guranteed SOAR coarse (you can find out about it on the WEB). The two together are very, very powerful. I am looking forward to my flight to New York City on July 4, 2002! Happy Flying!

This video on fear of flying was easy to watch for me and my two childern. It took a complicated subject and made it understandable. Only thirty minutes long makes it easy to watch it more than once.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great refresher, December 18, 1999
This review is from: Flying With Confidence Overcome your Fear of Flying [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was a white nuckle flyer, been to a fearful flying coursewhich made flying much easier, but cost alot and 4 nights of my time. I watched this tape and found it a great review on what was presented in the 4 long days of the fear of flying course I attended. Wish I found this tape first before I spent all the money and time. Great review!

4.0 out of 5 stars should help the nervous flyer, April 12, 2002

While this video (nor any other) can't help a person with a severe flying phobia, it should help those who are nervous or uncomfortable about getting on a plane. (People who are so frightened of flying that they become ill at the thought of it should probably seek professional therapy.)

Although I was able to get on a plane and go places, my fear of flying was such that I spent most of the time praying (once, the purser of a British Airways flight was called to see if I was "all right, now, then?").

This video (plus questions answered on the SOAR website) has made it much more comfortable for me to fly. The review of how the airplane works, pilot training and refresher training, plus quick comments about how weather conditions affect the plane, are all delivered in a calm and matter-of-fact manner by the narrator (who is ostensibly a pilot himself).

Throughout, pleasant, nondescript music plays on the soundtrack, and recalling this music to oneself on the plane, during taxiing and takeoff, or during turbulence, can actually produce a calming effect.

As indicated in the video, playing it a few times in the days before a flight helps to desensitize you. Remembering that just because you feel anxious doesn't mean you're actually in danger helps, too.

One of my favourite vignettes on the tape involves a husband who is sleeping through a violent thunderstorm. His wife wakes him up to watch some lightning outside the plane. He looks, but seems pretty unconcerned about the whole thing.

Clearly that guy has conquered his fear of flying!

Subsequently, topics are introduced and dispensed without covering most of the questions we fearful fliers have. Overall, the tape seems like an airline propaganda video you'd show to children who have never flown before their first flight rather than anything that would help thinking, questioning, adults overcome their fears.

5.0 out of 5 stars just what i needed, April 12, 2002

This was video I could understand, it took a fairly complicated and scary subject (at least for me) and made it understandable. As a first time flyer it eased my mind a bit, and told me what was going to happen, so I knew what to expect on my first flight.
What actually happened on my flight followed what happened in the video step by step. Just the thing I needed.

1.0 out of 5 stars May I Return this?, May 20, 2002

I was very disappointed by this 28 minute film of quick facts that we have all heard on T.V. all of our lives. There was nothing new. For the person that has a fear of flying there is nothing that will help you to grasp some information to help you with your fear reaction to flying. I almost laughed when the narrator said, "after you have fastened your seat belt, you take a deep breathe and relax, and before you take off you can place a relaxation tape on to help you relax during the flight!" Right! Or the other advise was to sit back and close your eyes and go to sleep!!! Save your money!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very useful, August 2, 2004
This review is from: Flying With Confidence Overcome your Fear of Flying [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Amazingly, this short video does not play the sounds that passengers might hear in the cabin - engine noise, hydraulics, etc. It therefore did very little to calm my wife's flying fears. You do not "hop on board" for a flight; what you mostly see is video shot from another plane of "your" plane maneuvering. On the plus side, this short video does cite some good safety statistics which may help the viewer who was not previously aware of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Video, February 24, 2002
This review is from: Flying With Confidence Overcome your Fear of Flying [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is more for the person who isn't very scared to fly. If you're like me, and can't even bear the thought of being in an airplane, this video will do nothing for you but pound statistics and things you already know into your head like Driving isn't as safe as flying etc. Don't waste your money; this is a terrible product.
