This is the same review that I gave the written version, with some added amplification, - and I stand by every word.

I was the captain of this flight crew so I was there. This book is a hoax. In all of the areas I had personal knowledge of, the events are hyper-embellished, grossly exaggerated, with a great majority of them invented and never occurring. He relates conversations that never took place and deliberately creates all sort of dramatic events that never occurred as well. His account of the same prison I was in prior to him serving his time there makes it appear like a prison from MSNBC's "Lockdown" TV series and it was absolutely NOTHING like that. He is given to incredibly GROSS exaggeration and dramatic embellishment throughout the entire book.

The author has created the story he wishes had happened versus what actually occurred and this is a fictional story - and not a true account. Reasonable people can and do honestly differ. Perspectives can vary - and they do. But the account given here is so far beyond the pale as to negate any possibility of that.

After this book came out, fifty-four pilots from Northwest and thirteen flight attendants all wrote letters of outrage, which were sent to the publisher. An incredibly strong letter from the former Pres/CEO of Northwest Airlines was also sent and that letter alone would be enough to debunk this book.

I offered to pay for polygraph exams for the author and myself AND travel to the author's home town for the purpose of challenging most of the events in the story he related and described. I was sure he would never accept and needless to say I received no response. The Truth is the first fatality in his book.

Format: Audio CD
This is the first book on cd that I have listened all the way through, and it was very interesting enjoyable. However, Mr. Balzer dives a bit far into the AA psychobabble a bit too much. Also a bit irritating is that the author did the reading for the CD, and if any aspiring authors are Jonesing to do this, my suggestion: don't. Leave it up to the professionals. Mr. Balzer vocalizes every other sentence into exclamations, which sounds a bit whiny. The books isn't high prose, some of the language was somewhat corny, but it is his own experience, so take it at face value.

I used this audio book to teach a class of Civil Air Patrol Cadets in our DDRx program (drug demand reduction program) It was a great opportunity for the cadets to hear the author's own voice discussing the dangers of alcohol and flying. The cadets had many questions about Captain Balzer and fortunately his book covered all the areas of interest. After the audio book discussion/lesson we had them fly the flight simulator while wearing drunk goggles so they could see how dangerous it is to drink and fly a plane.
