Biography

Grammatrain (Pete Stewart - vocals/guitar, Paul Roraback - drums, Dalton Roraback - bass) began in 1994, amid the boom of Seattle rock bands making waves in the nineties. After putting out their self-titled independent CD, the trio signed to EMI/ForeFront records and released two full length albums. 1995's Lonely House, produced with Aaron Sprinkle (Amberlin, MxPx, The Almost), earned the band… Read more in Amazon's Grammatrain Store

5.0 out of 5 stars GT Does it Again, April 19, 2000
By
Josh Vajda (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Though their fame came through the grunge revolution of the early 90's, Grammatrain lived through its death. This album still has hints of their old sound in it, but mostly its hard rock (with the same powerful messages). The best are Jonah, Pain, Spiderweb, and For Me, which all carry their classic feel. Also is Fuse which sounds like a spy thriller, Peace which is surprisingly calm for their reputation, and Less of Me which drives hard but features a hint of acoustic guitar. It's no Lonely House, but it's a great album just the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Grunge? Awwww Yeah!, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Grammatrain is probably the one and only group I've ever heard that managed to combine the religous message of other christian music groups with the seattle-grunge sound of such greats as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and their like. It's an odd combo, you may think, but one that works masterfully, especially on "Pain", "Fuse" and "Flying". Grammatrain is a group that deserves far more attention then they've recieved, and this cd is why.

4.0 out of 5 stars The dream would not leave me although I left my bed...., April 30, 2006
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)

Although released in 1997, this excellent jewel was actually four or five years too late. Simply put, the songs on this disc are good enough to compete with the best of the secular stuff offered by Grammatrain's fellow "Seattle-ites". As a huge fan of early-to-mid 90s grunge (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC, Screaming Trees, etc.), there is no doubt Grammatrain are good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as those bands.

Now, as far as the disc is concerned, it's absolutely amazing - musically and lyrically. The hit song Flying, while simple, is lyrical brilliance. Don't believe me - then give it a listen.

If you are a fan of early 90s grunge and don't have this disc, you are missing out. And yes, Christians can ROCK!
