5.0 out of 5 stars GT Does it Again
Though their fame came through the grunge revolution of the early 90's, Grammatrain lived through its death. This album still has hints of their old sound in it, but mostly its hard rock (with the same powerful messages). The best are Jonah, Pain, Spiderweb, and For Me, which all carry their classic feel. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped for
I didn't like it plain and simple. Vocals and otherwise were simply unappealing.

This album still has hints of their old sound in it, but mostly its hard rock (with the same powerful messages). The best are Jonah, Pain, Spiderweb, and For Me, which all carry their classic feel. Also is Fuse which sounds like a spy thriller, Peace which is surprisingly calm for their reputation, and Less of Me which drives hard but features a hint of acoustic guitar. It's no Lonely House, but it's a great album just the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Grunge? Awwww Yeah!, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Grammatrain is probably the one and only group I've ever heard that managed to combine the religous message of other christian music groups with the seattle-grunge sound of such greats as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and their like. It's an odd combo, you may think, but one that works masterfully, especially on "Pain", "Fuse" and "Flying". Grammatrain is a group that deserves far more attention then they've recieved, and this cd is why.

4.0 out of 5 stars The dream would not leave me although I left my bed...., April 30, 2006
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)

Although released in 1997, this excellent jewel was actually four or five years too late. Simply put, the songs on this disc are good enough to compete with the best of the secular stuff offered by Grammatrain's fellow "Seattle-ites". As a huge fan of early-to-mid 90s grunge (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC, Screaming Trees, etc.), there is no doubt Grammatrain are good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as those bands.

Now, as far as the disc is concerned, it's absolutely amazing - musically and lyrically. The hit song Flying, while simple, is lyrical brilliance. Don't believe me - then give it a listen.

If you are a fan of early 90s grunge and don't have this disc, you are missing out. And yes, Christians can ROCK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice nice nice, June 4, 2002

I believe "Flying" is a vastly superior recording to "Lonely House". So much so I didn't even want to buy "Lonely House" after hearing it (reminded me way too much of typical boring grunge). "Flying" is chock full of interesting moments and an incredibly beefy sound. "Fuse" sounds like something the Minutemen might have done in the 80's... heavy stuff. As someone who typical avoids warmed-over grunge music, I cannot recommend this recording any higher. Lyrically and musically it is a wonderful disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three quality musicians!, June 13, 2000
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
This band has a nice beefy sound for only three musicians. I'm amazed that Pete Stewart can sing so emotionally while playing such difficult guitar work. And I need to figure out what sort of pedal they use to give the bass guitar such a rumblesome sound. The drums are great too, filling in the gaps and adding tremendous energy.

I would say this album is comparable to Lonely House. I'm not willing to say one is better than the other.

If you are just getting started with Grammatrain, I suggest their live album (their final performace), a good compilation of their best stuff (though the sound quality and mixing was mediocre, still a good Grammatrain sampler). If you already have Grammatrain's first two albums, don't bother with the live album unless you are an avid fan, it's just more of the same (I think they only added one new song).

Bummer these guys only stuck around long enough to produce only two studio albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars best cd ever made, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
i have heard most christian rock cds and none of them are close to as good as this cd. all of the songs are just amazing. i didn't like grammatrain's first cd (lonely house) but this cd is my alltime favorite. best songs:jonah, flying, pain, fuse, for me. every song is almost just as good though. any one of their songs can match up to the best of christian OR secular music. this is one band that should be way more well-known then they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock!!!, February 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
I've been a fan ever since I heard their cover of Larry Norman's 6 o'Clock News. This album is a cut above the rest. The classy, guitar-driven fuse of the classics and the modern does not drown out the powerful, but artsy lyrics this band has to offer. Too bad they broke up. Long live Grammatrain!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD...., September 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Being newly intoduced into the mess of the cheesy sounds and awkward lyrics of most of the Christian rock avalible out there Grammatrain is by far the best band I have found(and I have listened to a few hundred so far). The fast paced guitar heavy music coupled with awsome vocals by Pete Stewart put them on the same level as Soundgarden, Foo Fighters and The Screaming Trees, just below Nirvana and Pearl Jam. If you like heavy alternative/grunge music you are going to love this CD, even if you are not a Christian music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Indeed, November 3, 2005
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Hello...Just Call me Slinky Slap Chip, or you could call me Duane instead any way...

This I believe is the second of the only two albams by Grammatrain ever made. I really like these guys style its raw grungy rock that really hits the heart. I find that most Nirvana fans really take a quick liking to this band. I do feel that there is a more mature sound to this albam and is true to the Grammatrain style but I do tend to favour the other albam( Lonely House ),this albam seems to be the more experamental albam of the two so the style is a bit inconsistant but still very nice. I really like the christ focusnessed in this band ,there are some very profound songs that if someone were to listen very closly to what is beeing said in the songs there would deffinately be a major impact on their heart. This albam has a more positive or less depressing sound and feel than the first albam.
Personaly ,Grammatrain is my all time favourate band and I wish they would get back together and make more albams.

Very Nice Indeed.

Slinky Slap Chip...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Rock CDs I've ever heard!, December 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
Do you think there is no such thing as tight sounding rock music with a worth while message? Think again! "Flying" by GRAMMATRAIN is one of the best rock albums I've ever heard. It combines some of the best instrumentation you'll ever hear on a rock album, with strong, thought provoking lyrics. The rhythm section of this band reminiscent of Led Zeppelin; "yes it's that strong"! There is really not a dud on here; just one great tune after another. My favorite song is "Pain" (one word for you here, INTENSE). I purchased this cd a couple of years back, and it still gets heavy rotation on all of my cd players.
