This is what childhood should be like...,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Flying Hockey Stick (Hardcover)
I firsr read The Flying Hockey Stick when I was six years old. My copy (recently lost, much to my dismay) was signed by my Mom and was given to me for my birthday. Anyway, the book is an adventrure story about a kid named Barnaby Jones who wants to fly. After trying MANY home made contraptions (many of which are pictured on the inside jacket cover), he comes up with one that works. A hockey stick, and umbrella and an electric fan, all taped together - thus the title of the book. Now it gets fun. Barnaby goes off on a series of adventures (using a VERY long extension cord!) and helps strangers in trouble. He rescues a woman from a fire, a captain from a sinking ship and an exporer from a pride of hungry lions (conveniently distracted by a couple of bags of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!), then takes them all home. Unlike most children's books, which would have ended there, The Flying Hockey Stick has a wonderful suprise ending. This is one of my all time favorite children's books and I'm hoping that Amazon can get me another copy since mine disappeared during one of my moves. My son is only 1 year old, but when he's old enough to read, I want him to have a copy of this book. John K. Lerchey lerchey@andrew.cmu.edu

This delightful story consistently brings instant smiles to the faces of young children. Jolly Rodger Bradfield's masterful storytelling ability captures the undivided attention of listeners/readers. Over my past 33 years as an educator, I have shared this book with literally thousands of children. The response is always the same, joy!
