5.0 out of 5 stars Photographic powerhouse!, January 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Flying Legends: P-51 Mustang (Hardcover)
A very considered study of the men and machines that made the Mustang a household name. The beautifully presented book is basically 20 biographies of Mustang Aces and illustrates their combat careers with fantastic archive pictures and a great biography by Stephen Grey. The concept is then bound together by John Dibbs' amazing color photography of authentically painted surviving P-51's of those Aces. This volume would be truely appreciated by historians and aviation buffs alike but also makes a great coffee table piece as it's visually stunning - a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Photo Tribute to the Legendary P-51!, March 30, 2008
This review is from: Flying Legends: P-51 Mustang (Hardcover)
P-51 MUSTANG confirms John Dibbs as one of the world's finest aerial photographers. This coffee-table (9 1/2" x 13 1/2") tribute to P-51 Mustangs is a stunning collection of contemporary Dibbs' photographs, mostly in-flight, of surviving P-51s along with wartime snaps and stories of actual Mustang aces. It's one handful of book and well worth the $39.95 price tag.

In P-51 MUSTANG Dibbs focuses his camera on those surviving P-51s which have been painted in the markings of famous WWII ETO P-51 aces. Among the Mustangs depicted in the over 100 drop-dead gorgeous snaps are those carrying the markings of Don Blakeslee, Bruce Carr, John Landers, Don Gentile, Chuck Yeager, Bob Frisch, Pierce McKennon, George Preddy, Bill Whisner, Ben Drew and 14 others. The book also includes 72 black and white wartime shots of the aces and their real mounts along with single-page accounts of each ace's exploits.

Dibbs' close-up, ultra-sharp photos of "Angels' Playmate," "Frenesi," "Cripes A'Mighty 3rd," "Big, Beautiful Doll," etc. are joys to behold. All in all, this is a wonderful treat sure to be enjoyed by Mustang lovers and air war enthusiasts in general.
