5.0 out of 5 stars "Talk About It" destined for #1, October 24, 2009
This review is from: Flying Machines (Audio CD)
Oh my! This band is awesome. I don't have time to write a full review, but the track "Talk About It" alone is worth the buzz it's generating. On a Whim is a catchy pop-rock tune that sounds a little like what Billy Joel would sound like if you ported his music to the 21st century (I'm not slagging off BJ!!). William's soaring vocals and John's stunning guitar work set to a backdrop of modern NYC rockabilities make these guys one of those few new acts worth adding to your CD collection. I love "I Can't Stop". William's voice has so much depth and range and I hear them and think of such other acts: Muse, Keene, The Killers, Billy Joel, and even a little Van Halen (John's massive guitar brings me back, yeah!!)...

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting name for a band that takes you on an amazing musical journey, October 19, 2009

I first was exposed to Flying Machines when they did music for the television show Psych. Their "On A Whim" is catchy and definitely not your typical pop drivel. There's weight to the lyrics and to the spectacular riffs. Couldn't wait for the cd to be released and I wasn't disappointed. Yes, they will remind you of QUEEN and ELO and McCartney and other symphonic masters. But they are contemporary and alternative and interesting and compelling. Melodic and passionate. And William's voice... incredible. Their sound is a definite nod to a British element but their New York edge shines through too. Can't wait to see them live ...if they are anything remotely close to what they do in the studio when they perform live, it's going to be some pretty spectacular music. I'll be flying along with them as they soar to success.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous album!, March 19, 2010

I randomly came across the song "On a Whim" while flipping around Sirius, and I was immediately drawn to the unique mix of soaring electric guitar and catchy, piano-driven pop. As soon as I got home, I ordered the album, and have been listening to it daily for the last week. This is an extremely talented group, and anyone who enjoys well crafted music with catchy hooks will really dig this album. Others have made comparisons to the likes of ELO and Queen, and I agree that Flying Machines incorporates elements of these groups into their music. But there is something modern and unpredictable about this album that truly is unlike anything I've heard before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, January 7, 2010

I'm skeptical of a lot of pop/rock music on the radio nowadays and it's refreshing to hear a band like Flying Machines (a band that, unfortunately, relatively few people have heard of). This is a really fun record and almost every track is incredibly catchy. I appreciate that while their sound is somewhat reminiscent of Queen and Boston they are not imitators and definitely have an original musical language. This isn't heavy, serious "art" but if you are a fan of classic rock, this is one of the few bands out there that proves it's still possible to create the golden age sound of 70's rock and integrate it into the contemporary musical realm.
