Boston cries tiny fist shaped tears,
By
This review is from: Flying (Audio CD)
once upon a time I had a weekly DJ spot at Radioboston.com (now defunct). It's a strange feeling, playing tunes and trying to sound all smooth and cool during the breaks, when in all likelihood there's not a soul listening. but enough about me. the one consolation was that i had to play (and thus learn about) new england music only; and that's how i discovered the pee wee fist (tpwf). i was hooked first by "beauty and the beats": an unspeakably beautiful little tune, its subject the grace and terror in everday moments, with one of the finest slow-burn electric guitar solos i've ever heard. then the rest of the album unfolded. i hear echoes of yo la tengo, modest mouse, and other such dissonant pop dismantlers. it's great. pete fitzpatrick -- singer, main songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (and author of the guitar solo, above) -- and his wife (bass, more vocals) have moved to new york city. i hear he's doing film soundtrack work. NYC and the film community win -- boston misses them. buy this album and see the band.
