When she confronts her ruthless husband for a divorce, she is cast out sans her children and threatened with her life. Desperate to get them back and gain liberty, she steals her husband’s plane. Trials and tribulations erupt as she navigates the turbulence her life has become. 5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, but for a book to read August 2, 2012
Format:Paperback
Sassy, absolutely sassy. I will state here that this story is written as a novel but in my opinion it is a true story told with name changes only of the real people, of this journey of a young woman taken in by the riches and wealth of a starch crazy family and of course, the misleading of her own mother whom we find out is not her real mother after all. The conduct of the husband reveals no love for his new wife from their beginning to their end. The main character, Nora, is sort of a renegade, wanting a few things for herself out of life, which I admire so she sets out to achieve what few women of her time achieved. She wanted to fly. But this desire led her to another desire in which, as the saying goes, actions and consequences, much like the wiper blades on a windshield, back and forth, back and forth. Sassy I say, with very explicit and explosive details of her romance which she undertook to find true love, but the consequences of her actions led to new adventures, some enjoyable and some not so enjoyable, but she persisted in her quest.
She is catholic, as is her family--and her new lover and his family. Twist and turns presents problems for Nora, things like divorce is disallowed by her church, presuming of course that one should suffer rather than feel free and loved. For this the church levies consequences but rather than continue to live in hell, Nora accepts those consequences and chooses a different and difficult route but she refuses to give up her religion, with a few exceptions that is. I can almost read her mind as she tried to separate her love of flying for the love of being truly loved.
There is some raw language, vulgarity if one wishes, in the first part of this story but without it, the sense of what really took place would be lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flying Solo I Know You'll Appreciate This Book July 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Flying Solo is a well written, well thought out book written by Jeanette Vaughan. The author went to great lengths and detail to reveal what its like to live in a glass house that hides its frailties with money. Outsiders looking in would cut off their right arm to have what they think they see. Not realizing that what they're witnessing is a facade. Sure that almighty dollar wields power, but it can't and never will compensate for the lack of love. Flying Solo reveals an extraordinary unsuspecting love story that's incredibly engaging and equally intense. It gives hope, then tears at the hearts strings when attempts to build on it is met with opposition. The characters in Flying Solo had to have come alive in Jeanette's mind because she wrote in such vivid detail about all the excitement, intimacy, anguish, expectations and pain associated with love. I could see in my minds eye every place and scene she was talented enough to take me and describe. It would be a cinch to keep elaborating on this book, but until you pick it up and read it you can't truly appreciate the magnificent story she has put together. Flying Solo is a very entertaining and unpredictable book that I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable novel December 16, 2012
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed this book. I do have to say that I felt sad that this book ended so quickly. It had a great build up, with Nora's unhappy marriage and her wanting to take an opportunity for herself, by signing up for flying lessons. The chemistry between her and Steve is described well. I did notice a few typos (site is supposed to be spelled sight) but other than that, nothing major or anything, the story flowed well. The unorthodox arrangement Marci came up with surprised me, and the tension between her and Nora is described well, as well as her conflict with Kacey.

I certainly hope that there will be a sequel to this book. With the way this book ended, I would LOVE to see Nora Jean's further adventures, if she ever flies again, if Frank ever sees his kids again, if Nora ever gets back with Steve.
