5.0 out of 5 stars All my complaints shrink to nothing
Much has been said about this EP, how it's better than the full-length debut, and this, that and the other. Needless to say, I was skeptical. The other day I found it so I bought it and listened to it. Well, I now understand what all the fuss was about and I'll no doubt join in on the praise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad start for an up-and-coming band
The Good
On "I'm So Sick" vocalist Lacey Mosley makes you believe that she's this timid little singer as the track begins. It isn't long before she gives off a screeching roar that you know this girl isn't kidding around. Mixing melody with raw anger, Lacey expresses her feelings about what she can no longer stand. Guitarists Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann...

Much has been said about this EP, how it's better than the full-length debut, and this, that and the other. Needless to say, I was skeptical. The other day I found it so I bought it and listened to it. Well, I now understand what all the fuss was about and I'll no doubt join in on the praise.

From the very beginning it's easy to see that this EP is full to the brim with power, emotion, and energy. I personally love the debut, it ranks among my favorites to this day, but in six songs Flyleaf completely captures every aspect you love about the debut (if you're like me and STARTED with it), and adds so much more depth. The simple variations to the songs make you wonder why they even took them out. Prime example, the intro to Breathe Today, it flows perfectly into the actual song and sounds excellent. Dumb move by taking it out in my opinion.

I like the raw sound this EP has going for it, kind of makes you feel like you're at one of their shows. Plus, hearing Lacey's vocals completely unfooled around with is a nice treat.

My favorites included are I'm So Sick, Fully Alive, and Breathe Today. I'm glad I went the route I did (hearing the debut first and then the EP), it made me really see how good this band actually is. Haunting at times, beautiful others, this EP contains some of the best songs from the debut. Any fan of Flyleaf shouldn't pass this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way to Truth and Enlightenment isn't a bright lit path in the park., October 16, 2005
This review is from: Flyleaf (Audio CD)
After hearing their music, about 2 days before a concert that they were opening up for Cold in Nashville, I have instantaneously become a fan in full support of spreading the word about their style and sound. The lead singer Lacey is a very humbled individual that shows in her lyrics and emotion of her voice whenever laying down each song. She can hit and hold the pitch to make you feel the atmosphere of sedation all the while breaking it up with a hard toned scream that is along the lines of a melancholy roar. Many people may compare them to other hardcore girl bands but if not listening to their tracks on the debut album doesn't coerce you to believe differently then seeing them perform live on stage will. They mimic their albums songs on stage with the experience shown by many veterans helping to provide a beginning of a long predicted career, as long as they realize who put them there. I am definitely going to see them again, which is quite soon, since they are performing a couple of days later in Knoxville. Look for them in a city or town coming near you to be treated to a new awakening in rock. If you truly need a comparison, then I would think Kittie's Spit is a good similarity, but your only cheating yourself out of a great mix.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little Giant, December 9, 2009
This review is from: Flyleaf (Audio CD)
Why would any band actually expand a four-track demo disc to six songs and re-release it after a full-length album that contains all of the said six songs? Because there is this thing called "production." And "producers" like to overdo things. In the full-length album, guitars are suppressed and cleaned up. Effects are more warbly and watery. Voice-overs give Lacey's voice an almost electronic quality. You get the idea - "overproduction," as they call it.

This EP, on the other hand, is as raw as it gets - its garage-band-like quality actually helps instead of hinders it. One can even hear the reverberations of the drums in the studio. The disc showcases Flyleaf's raw talent unadulterated by the evils of overproduction. This really is a short but sweet compilation of the best Flyleaf has to offer (in its purest form) from their full-length debut. It truly is a testament to the quality of the kind of music Flyleaf puts out - if any band manages to slap six near-perfect tracks on a twelve track album, they are doing a superb job. Six out of six ain't bad, either. For that, Flyleaf gets five well-earned stars... Out of five.

A Kid's Review

I heard Flyleaf as a warmup band at a concert, and I immediately bought their CD (and got it autoraphed!!). Flyleaf is bound to be big. They're simply amazing. I can't stop listening to them. Hell, I'm listening to them right now. Buy this EP, or their CD once it comes out. In a few years, I'm going to show off that I own an autographed EP.

5.0 out of 5 stars So RAD/raw/real!, September 20, 2010

This EP is so good! Although all 6 songs also appear on their self-titled full-length album, these six EARLIER/RAWer versions are distinctly different to their album versions and, in a number of ways, better!
For example, Breathe Today has an extra intro that is gloriously creepy & challenging - giving clearer meaning to the already RAD song!
It seems that the music is crisper/sharper/punchier! And the lyrics also seem to be clearer/louder! Sounds like it was recorded in a garage - & probably was - RAD! :)
For only $7, BUY IT! Or buy lots & give 'em away, like I have, @ that price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flyleaf is so awesome!!!, April 6, 2007
This review is from: Flyleaf (Audio CD)
I bought their EP CD yesterday, I was going to buy their full album but I didn't have enough money and then I saw the EP CD was cheaper, so I just had to buy it. I liked FlyLeaf before I had their CD because I knew the songs "I'm so sick" and "Fullyalive" I've seen, the Fully Alive video on Sky Angel (A Christian Channel) before, and the video is awesome! I love all the songs on this cd, my favorite is of course "Fully Alive" and "Red Sam", and "I'm so sick", I love all of the songs though, I can't wait to buy their full CD next time, knowing me I will always love listening to their cd! I LOVE this band, they are better than Evanescence! I HIGHLY recommend that you buy this CD, and the debut CD! I can't wait til their next CD comes out! And Lacey Mosley, does really good in her singing and she can yell in the songs too, she's awesome! FLY LEAF ROCKS!
