Trash Totally trash,

This review is from: Flynn (DVD)
Can't believe I didn't heed the warning of the other reviewer. This movie has no merit. Very depressing and very unpleasant. Waste of time and money. An embarrassment for Errol Flynn and has no artistic merit at all. Save your money for something worth it.

Flynn is ostensibly the story of Errol Flynn's early years: before he was an actor he was a hustler, a fortune seeker, a tramp and a thief.Altogether an unlikely, melodramatic bit of fluff. Recommended only if you fancy staring at Guy Pearce for a couple of hours.

Total trash. Ignores the lust for life that made Errol Flynn so intereresting. Having read several books about and by Errol Flynn, this movie probably has the least connection to reality of anything written or filmed about the man. Unpleasant and depressing. The video "My Wicked Wicked Ways" is infinitely better.

Baffled,

This review is from: FLYNN (DVD)
Guy Pearce picks up some very tangible aspects - he does a believable Errol Flynn - the Fletcher Christian scene toward the end is brilliant - and reflects the documentary archives of Errol perfectly.
He succeeds in replicating some very good moves - when Flynn is fighting, for example - not many actors had this ability to deliver a punch like Errol did on screen or in real life - and Guy Pearce is uniquely good in the fight scenes. But the story this film tells us leaves me baffled. Nowhere in all the research done on Flynn did I ever come accross that his friend, Erben (a wannabe german spy, if ever) would sodomize him on board the Sirocco. Then the Sidney passage - granted Flynn was starving, the Depression, the poverty was rampant - but Flynn prostituting himself to male clients...everything is possible. Far fetched, though and not believable. The guy was smart, cunning and resourceful: he would have found other ways to get by, rather. Using women, business scams..borrowing.. Did large segments of this film got edited and deleted ? it seems as though portions are missing, although it depicts accurate scenes and verified events of the young Errol's life. The last image reveals what Flynn's life was about.

"Flynn" provides an account of Errol Flynn's early childhood up until his first feature film, which was the Australian film "In The Wake Of The Bounty".
This film has a commendable Australian cast with Guy Pearce highly engaging as Errol Flynn. The Australian and Papua New Guinea focus was well-intended to provide insight into Flynn's life before achieving worldwide fame. However, the fictionalization of key events, such as his interlude with a wealthy socialite was at times inaccurately represented, as were numerous events in Papua New Guinea. Yet the most appalling fiction was displaying Flynn involved in homosexual acts. This was extremely irresponsible conduct by the Screenplay Writer and Film Director, and is an insulting fabrication of Flynn's legacy. It is also very much at odds with respected accounts of him from close friends and family members, and his own diary records and letters. This film has flashes of brilliance which is desecrated by myths and distorted facts. Nicholas R.W. Some reviews I've read say that this was a boring movie. I thought quite the opposite and really enjoyed seeing Guy Pearce play Flynn. I am definitely glad I purchased this DVD for my collection.
